He's improved in that regard ever so slightly since spending some time working with the boys at TSN at least. Still hates Larry Brooks though no doubt, lol
There was that incident where he dragged that one columnist in Philly for trashtalking a player and then never called on him again. In fairness, that was a deserved punishment.

Honestly, I've learned to respect Torts with his latest tenure as coach. He's a hardass but he'll give you respect if it's earned.

Exactly, I feel the same way about him. He's polarizing for sure, but there's a reason he keeps getting hired

We don't need the NHL to turn into the NBA.
NHL players disrespect the suit anyways when they come in like this

I'd rather them come in with a tshirt and jeans than whatever this is

I understand it more than baseball managers wearing uniforms. A lot more.

Managers wearing uniforms makes sense to me, because it's just a tradition passed down from the period when it was as likely as not that the manager was also an active player. They don't much do that anymore, obviously, but the rules still support it, and as most managers are former players anyway and are more comfortable dressing in a uniform than a suit, the attire remained as it was through inertia.

On the subject of Torts, this doesn't bother me in the slightest. Many things about him do, primarily the hypocrisy and capriciousness, but this is less than nothing. No aspect of his attire impacts his ability to do his job, he can wear whatever he wants on the bench, within reason.

Ive never understood why players and coaches come to the rink in suits. They're going to a game, not a wedding. Coaches should be allowed to wear pajamas to games if they wish.

Most people making millions of dollars (such as lawyers and C-Suite types) are required to wear suits to work, so I dont see a problem with it. I prefer it to letting players wear whatever the hell they want like the NBA does.

It's a sport, it's perfectly fine. They coach baseball dressed up in players.

Him still coaching is a whole different story

Thats because it's tradition. In the early days of baseball, teams didn't have a dedicated coach/manager. A player would double as the manager, or at the time was simply called the captain. As the years went by, a guy was hired to specifically manage the team (i.e. no more player-coaches) and they just kept with the tradition.

I hate it when the league allows the players to be themselves.
Who said they can't be themselves? Players like Matthews and Lundqvist have no issues dressing to impress in a business attire. We don't need them dressing like clowns though. I assume you don't work in a professional environment.

I find it hilarious, seeing big fat 70 year old men dressed in full uniform for baseball. They need a pinwheel for the top of their hats though.

Especially the Fanatics see-through pants 😬
Nothing was worse than seeing Chris Christie in one 🤢

I think the coaches should be able to wear whatever they want behind the bench (using common sense, of course). Brings out more personality on them when you see someone in just a tracksuit vs someone who really puts an effort on a suit. Wearing a suit just because you have to wear a suit doesn't make you look good wearing it.

Beats the hell out of baseball managers. Wearing a full uniform as if they might be needed to play. Ha!
Imagine if Torts ( or Boudreau) came out to coach suited up like players. 😅

I would genuinely enjoy seeing that for a game, though it'd be way, way funnier if it was Boudreau (also, I think he's got the right sense of humor to actually do it.) Maybe we can find a team that has a good sense of humor on April Fools' Day.
