Wait, people are actually getting upset that some plug from the Toronto Star who's never played in the show, and probably not even a minute in a competitive hockey league, is bashing our team? The guy's got as much hockey cred as a high school reporter.

Not true, actually.

Actually, it is true.

From what i've learned in one of my law classes, any private business can not allow you in for whatever reason they choose. I am not allowed to certain restaurants with ripped jeans. I am not allowed in certain clubs if i wear my hat backwards because "they think im a gang member"(true story). The senators can not allow you in for wearing a leafs jersey just like a club can kick you out if you wear your hat backwards or like any other place that doesn't allow you in due to a dress code. This dress code doesn't need to be written in paper and can be made up on the spot at the door. That is what i've learned atleast. As a customer, there's not much you can do unless you think the reasons you're not allowed in are solely due to sex/race/religion then you might have a case. But even then, there's woman only gym, and good luck fighting that in court saying it's sexist. You won't win. It's been attempted before.

You do realize that if Leaf fans didn't show up that the arena would be half full right?

No.

All that would happen is STHs wouldn't recover so much of the expense of their season's tickets.

Have you been to the rink when the Leafs aren't playing?

Do you read what you type before you post it?

Last I checked the Senators averaged more than 50% attendance to all their other games. Unless I'm mistaken that this city's population is mainly comprised of 10,000 plus fans of the other 29 teams in the NHL.

Leaf math. :handclap:

For the record, a guy showed up in his Kessel jersey last night and couldn't figure out that Section 326 was different from 325.

Numbers are frightening to Leaf fans.

DUDE. I was sitting in 227. No word of a lie, that guy in the Kessel jersey has been to EVERY game I've been too (I'm missed one home game). I actually think he has season tickets and shows up to every game in a Kessel jersey. What. A. Tool.

I take care of doling out our season tickets at work and had a client looking for a pair for either of the two Leafs Saturday night visits. I wasnt sure if he was a Sens or Leafs fan, so I asked him point blank. He said Leafs so I then proceeded to tell him I only had a few games left, none of them Leafs. I LIED!!! And it felt SO GOOD!!!

PS - I gave him a pair to an upcoming Bruins game so he can watch Raask and Hamilton do their thang!

Of course they're trying to deter Leaf fans. Having rivals in the building is a good thing, but that's not the issue, it's the drunken jerks. The Leaf fans that show up to have a good time and see their team play are more than welcome. Unfortunately, we get too many who are the equivalent of Internet trolls or soccer hooligans and they ruin it for everybody.

Organizations who don't address problems like that are the amateurs. People don't complain about the number of fans, it's the problem cases. Those guys don't care about hockey, they just relish in pissing people off.

You make a good point and so to add to it, this will be my only serious post in this thread, because I have trouble believing such a non-issue is causing such a kerfuffle:

There is an equal number of Habs fans who invade SBP for each Sens-Habs tilt. Nobody has a problem with them. Why not? Maybe Leafs fans, who are so famous for navel-gazing, should ponder that one for a little while.

Agree completely. Too many Leaf fans are there, not to cheer, but to provoke. Anyone who doesn't realize this doesn't go to the games or sits in suites.

You answered your own question. It's because real fans can't afford to go, hence why it is all corporate suits. I went to the last Leafs/Sabres game in Buffalo and it was full of real Leafs fans cause they can actually afford it, and the atmosphere was amazing. The same would happen in the ACC if fans could actually go.
Agree 100%. Minus a few drunk idiots, makes the Sens/leafs games in Ottawa way more exciting...

I'm a Sens fan from Ottawa living in Toronto, so I only watch them on TV - on television, I see nothing wrong, just intense fan cheering/booing from both sides.

If immature leaf fans are showing up to cause problems, that should be dealt with, and I guess that's what the Senators are trying to do with this resale angle. To paraphrase an old punk song: "The s__t you have to go through is the s__t you choose to take". They don't want fighting in the stands, and this could help curb it a bit I guess.

I can understand the "bullying part" for sure, when I went in a Leafs jersey, I was mocked and insulted an incredible amount, but I never took it to heart or anything, it's just a part of being in an arena full of the other teams fans. (I can assume the insults go both ways though, I tend to go with friends who are a mix of the two teams, and we don't bother anyone else so I don't see as much bullying otherwise).

I think it's somewhat of a dumb article though, nothing really interesting hear, it's just a silly reporter jumping on the fact they don't want ticket holders shelling out, thus letting in possible unwantables and making for more sens oriented atmosphere).

Although I would also like to point out that Toronto's tickets are so damn expensive I can see why so many make the trip.

You're right and wrong. Section 15 equality rights in the charter only apply to government. The charter is the supreme law of Canada which governs the relationship between citizens and the government. It does not apply to private corporations.

Any establishment is free to set their own limits on who may enter their premises. Just like you can decide who comes into your home. You don't need a reason at all. But, if you sell tickets, the terms of the contract are listed on the back of the ticket. There will be no clause in there saying a leaf fan can't attend. As such, they can't legally exclude leaf fans. The legal issue is a breach of contract (by the ticket vendor), not their right to exclude people from the premises.

Congrats on your law schooling, which school?

You are a great man.

I spent half the afternoon yesterday on the Toronto Star comments section antagonizing Leaf fans.

"Oh, that's good. Remember how you haven't made the playoffs for ten years?"

Over and over and over again.

Do you even know what literally means?

Sure do lol It means being a basement team that has nothing to show for it other than ludicrous overating of mediocre players and bringing in blowhard followed by blowhard whos done nothing but turn that franchise into what it is, a laughing stock. It has got to be the worst run, most unsuccessful organization in the last decade. They havent won a cup since 1967, werent there 6 teams in the league then?

It's just a joke how terrible of a team it is, even to this day. They have nothing, no peices at all. Their fans, from all of my experiences at the bank, are immature alchoholic idiots that will support any idiot willing to put on the jersey of such a terrible team, who also enjoy cursing and acting in a poor manner in front of seniors or children. But I guess it is what it is. Your not geting the cream of the crop Leaf fans when they come to Ottawa, the ppl that come here cant afford tickets in Toronto and come to Ottawa with what I can only assume is their savings. So trash acts like trash

I hate hearing crap like this. You're no better than some of the idiot Leaf fans. Some bad sports writer writes about a stupid, embarrassing letter and the next thing the Internet is full of hateful posts between two fan groups.

What silliness. Playground talk.
