Rumor: Toronto, Nashville, Utah, NY Islanders teams with interest in Maxim Shabanov

Had just 2 assists in the first 3 playoff games, and his team was losing 2-1 while played 2 games home and 1 away. And then he scores 5 ponts, and they destroy opponents 7-3. So now he's 2+5 after 4 games.

Islanders signed Tsyplakov mid May, as a comparable on when he’ll sign
So basically the Isles should roll out next season:

Holmstrom-Horvat-Barzal
3 random guys (hoping for Gillies-Trottier-Bossy personally)
Russians (Russian born UFA center for Tsyplakov and Shabanov)
???-Maclean-Gatcomb

He's for a pure top6 role, because he has great offensive tools, but any 2-way role is obviously not for him.

That's sometimes the problem with NHL teams. GM signs a player meaning one thing, and then coach forces the player to do things he's not just suited for.

Thing is, the Islanders have Jim Paliafito on their scouting staff. He's been called "The Closer".

Lou brought him in from Toronto.

If the Isles want a Russian UFA, this man will get it done.

Case in point: Tsyplakov.

Their other European pro scout? Vladimir Malakhov.

This is what they do.

If he doesn't sign with the Isles, then you can assume they didn't really want to sign him.

Barry Trotz hears this and envisions 6 minutes a night on the 4th line with McCarron and Cole Smith as the answer (while they go on to play 17--the rest of them with Colton Sissons). Perfect fit I say.

Who have the Islanders been letting hang around during games randomly: Alexei Yashin (no turtleneck though)

If he's the caliber he will figure it out.

I don't see how the fit is there for the Leafs then. Doesn't seem to fit what Treliving or Berube look for. They already have Nick Robertson for that role of top 6 skillset but too poor defensively for the bottom 6

If he’s a LW he’d be great for the Isles on either top 6 LW spot. Put him opposite Palmieri with Horvat in between and then it puts Lee on the second line with Barzal.

I'd say he's better than most NHLers when he has time and space.
But can he create that for himself as required on NHL ice? I don't know. That's immensely difficult for someone who is 5-8.

5'8 157lbs....leaves thread.
Lmao, doesn't say anything about body composition though. I workout religiously, I walk around 175lbs relatively lean, I did a shred a couple times I can get down to like 155 at 5'10, but if you saw a pic you'd probably think I was 200+

157 is super light but if he's in proper shape at 157 it's a non-issue
