Does it? he missed 3 months, AND game 7, there were flashes of spectacular play there always has been, talent has never been a question.

But I don't think he played enough to earn anything
You're welcome to think and not even like it that but that's how it works in the league.

WE dont have a 2C caliber player on the team

You can try tavares there.instead but you still need to run Nylander and Marner at wings with him in that case, as playing only 1 with tavares will not be good enough as we saw last year especially vs bruins in R1

Regular season is for forming a winning roster and making winning habits/getting chemistry for the players.

We need to go either:

91-88-16
or
88-91-16

Whichever we go with, we need to stick to it for the season, and get that line great chemistry so they can dominate for the playoffs.

Knies - Matthews - Robertson should be a good 1st line at least comparable to 2018-2019 Johnsson - Matthews - Kapanen line we saw (likely better as 2025 matthews is better than 2019 matthews by far)

Tavares had 65 points last year and that's with Bertuzzi not scoring AT ALL for the first 25% of the season.

This idea that Tavares is not a #2 center isn't just wrong, It's a lie.

I’d prefer to see McMann in as well. Also true, he isn’t a lock NHLer yet, he had 7 goals in 5 games, apart from that he was on a 11 goal season pace. I love what he brings, but he is a 28 year old that’s played 66 NHL games, not some seasoned vet that gets pencilled in. He will get his reps and needs to produce, pretty simple. I didn’t think he had a great preseason either tbh.

People mad about reaves, but the most baffling thing is singing Lorentz and keeping Kampf. They are two identical players, but one is far cheaper.

Kampf's 2.4M should;ve been traded to free some some necessary breathing room. Thats what's baffling to me.

It would be great to finally see him play consistently for some extended time. Hopefully he can stay healthy. He's got all the tools.
He just has to be hard on the puck, hopefully Berube is getting through to him there. He’s always had great vision and a tidy first pass, he just struggles on the wall and out front of the net.

Are player stats from pre-season available anywhere?
I don't recall seeing much of McMann in the preseason.

I mean It's based in logic isn't it? How can you earn anything when you are hurt more then you play? Including game 7.

Like I said Woll is VERY good when he's healthy but there are still MANY questions with Woll.

I hope he is that dude because then he's at 3.6 for 3 more years that's fantastic.

But if he gets hurt long term again he's got to go.

He can't be getting injured all the time.

Ignoring the cap side of it, Kampf needs 2 clones of himself for his line to work. Giving him a small speedy wing and Reaves just makes a line you can’t deploy in any zone.

He played in four games.

I don't recall seeing much of McMann in the preseason.

He really wasn't very inspiring. He wasn't really doing the things that made him valuable depth last year. He was a bit of a dog on the puck, hard working, physical guy, and it didn't seem like he fully had that in him. I don't know if it's due to the injury, or just uninspired preseason play.

He didn’t stand out, so I think Berube is rewarding those that did. Bobby will get in, it’s up to him to stick.

Tavares had 65 pts playing mostly with a 120 pt winger (nylander had 48 in 33 and tavares had 31 in 33 before the lines changed).

Tavares went from a 77 pt pace playing with a top 5 player in the league for that time down to a 59 pt center (34 pts in next 47 games ) which was more around what he was capable of after nylander insane stretch ended

We saw tavares give 2 pts in 7 playoff games playing closer to a 4C then a 2C

The idead that Tavares is capable of being a 2C for contending team is a lie.

He will need 2 90-100 pt wingers driving the line and creating all the offense for him to get 60-70 pts this year and not be useless come playoffs.

We pay nylander and marner 22.5M this year for this reason. They need to drive the corpse of tavares to be a respectable top 6 player

Kampf was only 50.6 percent on draws last year. JT was close to 60 and Matthews 53.4.
Kampf's career average is only 51.4% You would think for a defensive specialist, he would be better. It's kind of his bread and butter, something he should be working on a ton, to be closer to 60%.

And Nylander scoring at close to a 120 point pace over a similar span. How come Willy can still produce (and even better) but JT can't?

JT is still a marginal 2C, but I think really only because Willy is supporting him.

How many points do you think a typical 2nd line centre on a good team puts up? I assure you it's less than 77 or even 59.
