Toronto is in big trouble... Matthews's injury is still there. Surgery incoming?

This sounds like an opportunity to out Stone the Golden Knights. Load up for a run. To get out of the 1st round.

Wait didn't you say the Leafs were going to miss the playoffs this year? Or fall to the wildcard?
I did not say the Leafs would miss the playoffs. What I said was they'd fall to a wildcard spot...and...lo and behold, a glance at the wildcard standings puts them 8 points up of the top WC spot while playing 4 extra games. A potential tie should Tampa keep pace and win their games in hand.

Lots of season left...and Leaf fans especially should remember just how much their team is a Cinderella and how easily they fold under the pressures of a playoff run.

A gem from past Leaf management...

This is amazing. Unintentional comedy at it's best. Exactly what I was looking for.

You should write a book about how and why the Leafs remain so much in your head. Would really help me learn what you and many others on this site go through on a daily basis.

Working on it.

Already have the title...

Weird youre not concerned about Tampa catching the Panthers when the Panthers have the same number of points as the Leafs with an extra game played 🥶 or you know the Bruins, who have 1 more game played yet 6 fewer points...

We all know he will be ready for play offs.
Kucherov and Stone like.
Whether he has surgery like Stone did is another matter.
Leafs track record with Matthews in line up for play off series 1-7.
Take that for what it's worth.

Why would the Leafs be in "big trouble" when the Eastern Conference is clearly wide open?
It was clearly wide open last January too.

Leafs should just do a Vegas and LTIR him and go out and get another superstar and have Matthews back for game 1 of the playoffs
That's what they will do .....and if not.....why not?
They win just as much without him anyway. They could even finish first without him.....let alone make the play offs.

I wonder... would most people take your word or the words of several former NHL players who came out and said Marner is too soft for playoffs?

Four former players posted about the lack of engagement physically by Marner specifically in last year's playoffs...Avery, Whitney, Bissonette and Hrudey.

Guess you know more than former NHLers? Look forward to your response.

Sean Avery posted Marner avoiding a hit in the Montreal series way back a few years ago (indicating the soft play has been routine)

Former players posted about Marner avoiding a hit in the Boston series and how Marners play won't win in the Playoffs:

Bisonnette and Hrudey did separate segments on Marner for playing soft and avoiding physical play:

I kinda accepted it is what he is and know he’s not a power forward, though should have gotten past the playing like a terrified rookie and makes pouty sad faces phase a long time ago.

I wouldn’t say you don’t win with players like Marner but I’ve been saying he would do better with a less pressure cooker role and different pressure cooker team maybe. Phil Kessel is just as soft and Marner is the better player that offers more and Phil showed he can win cups with the right role and fit. I did think maybe Nylander taking the next step last few years could take pressure off him but I guess it hasn’t yet.

As for the topic, nobody really knows what’s Auston is dealing with and what his options are other than that he’s not healthy this season. Getting surgery and using his LTIR space and having him back in playoffs would seem ideal but maybe its the kinda surgery that keep him out start of playoffs or longer. Maybe he is waiting for four nation tourney(he has a right to play if he wants to) and could just rest it and heal or have a surgery that would keep him out until playoffs only.

Really it could neither of those and anything and I try not to speculate too much as it usually leads to unfair criticism. The worst would be he plays until after the tourney and then gets shuts down the season as I think that would turn fanbase against him enough to really run him out of town. I would think management and Auston himself wouldn’t go that route.

Nice, an ironic title like that might might help sell the book.
