Yes, he does not get to choose to go on LTIR- there is a league process. They don't ask him to agree. You literally just said “he would have no choice in the matter”

Yes, a player has to be injured to be on LTIR regardless what the player says- they won't just take his word for it. There is a process. He might though. The NHL has to approve the medicals for all LTIR cases. If the player is saying he is ok to play it makes it really tough to justify LTIR unless it’s something major, which this doesn’t sound like. If Matthews says he can play and it’s just a discomfort thing it’ll be hard to present an LTIR case without his consent.
Lmao i didn’t make up anything… you said they were adding $13M worth of players, how would they do that unless he went on LTIR?
if a guy that’s otherwise healthy enough to play is put on LTIR for the rest of the year so his team can add $13M worth of players, I’d question eitherThat wasn’t what the meat of your statement was. You were commenting that Matthews somehow choosing to go on LTIR made him a bad captain.
That’s you making shit up
i would be even more concerned if my team's leader and star player was cool with being shut down for the rest of the year just so they could add a few more players for the playoffs. what an inspiring captain
if a guy that’s otherwise healthy enough to play is put on LTIR for the rest of the year so his team can add $13M worth of players, I’d question either
1. his leadership if he agrees to it
Or
2. the wisdom of the management that LTIR’s him if he doesn’t want to be
That is my OPINION. I am not making any factual statement, therefore I am not “making shit up.”
Please keep up.

funny that you’re leaving out that I was responding to your comment which suggested LTIR in the first place.. whatever punisher guy I’m outta hereThis is what you wrote, which I responded to
I think you’re lost, dude. Take a nap
You’re making up that Matthews is A) healthy (he’s not) and B) he can ‘agree’ to go on LTIR
You’re a mess
We are top of the division without the best goal scorer in hockey....and no depth scoring. Turn that into a negative somehow lmaoBest depth forward group of the last 25 years?
I think teams that use LTIR to load up for the playoffs are pathetic and it’s a tacit admission you couldn’t get it done under the salary cap.Curious what your thoughts on Mark Stones leadership is?

As for Mark Stone, I have no idea what his role in that was; i.e., whether he was malingering as a willing participant. If so then yeah that would be shitty leadership, and at odds with my prior perception of him as a player — I have no idea whether or not that was the case though.
Hey thats not fair! Youre using hard objective facts!Best depth forward group of the last 25 years?
Montreal was always the depth forward group no?Best depth forward group of the last 25 years?

Solo first in the Atlantic. Still in deep deep trouble of course.
Damnit I was coming to post this again.
BTW since we are posting stats in this thread the Leafs are not only 1st in the division but also
- 1st in GA/game
- 1st in RW
- 1st in team save%, expected goals against, and many other goaltending statistics
And all of this is without our best player. If anything, this is the most potential the Leafs team has ever had. A mid division for the first time since we drafted our core, cap space to add at the deadline for the first time without having to pay draft picks for 3 teams to retain 50%, and a legit coaching staff.
Haters are scared.
Go get that Presidents trophy!!
Don't care about that. Care about being 1st in the division/conference because it means instead of getting the Boston/Tampa(who at least they can beat but still elite)/Panthers round 1 they might get the Senators or another weaker team which is massive.
This is where you get the lame chirps about Habs when the core was 23 years old. This is a team that is built to go deep, has experience in every position, has a coaching staff who have won before. This is unironically their year.
