Now with the transfer window open, and a new manager with Tottenham, any developments on the Defoe front?

New manager has no say... Defoe has already been sold to TFC. If it wasn't for AVB desperately wanting to keep him then the press conference would have probably happened already.

The only thing up in the air right now is where Defoe will be until the MLS season starts

GMT 06.40:Tottenham seem to have Juventus on the mind with the Mirror reporting that Spurs are looking to replace the MLS-bound Jermain Defoe with either Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella.

Expect De Rosario to be announced by end of this week and Defoe by early next week, sources tell me. #TFC

Looks like we gotta wait 1 more week for the Defoe signing,

There is also rumours that Toronto FC may be interested in Michael Bradley. What an awesome offseason :yo:

That would be so good as TFC could still use another good CM and RB but I dont see how that would work under the cap

I am a big Roma supporter. This is upsetting to me from that side. However, exciting from TFC's perspective.

With Strootman, De Rossi, Florenzi, Pjanic and the recent arrival of Naingolan or whatever from Cagliari the writing was on the wall.

Bradley's awesome though. I wish he saw more playing time.

Now Alexi Lalas is saying the Bradley rumour to TFC is legit... him and Twellman are two of the more informed MLS reporters, oh man

Not going to pretend like I have even a decent grasp of the MLS cap rules, but the Galaxy rolled out Donovan, Keane and Beckham all at once a couple years back under Leiwicke... I'm sure they've got it figured out.

Also because Bradley is American do the same rules apply to him as Donovan? I thought it was a unique situation when you've got a DP who is from the US/Can

can someone give me a scouting report and player comparable for both Defoe and Bradley?

I don't know much about Bradley but if Defoe can get service I believe he has the pace and the finish to rip up MLS. He won't be the sort of striker to create a lot on his own though, he will need service imo. Hopefully De Rosario still has it.

This is good reason to be excited, even as a TFC fan imo.

Bradley would be huge, but I don't see how they can fit him as they will already have 3 DP's -> Gilberto, Defoe, and Laba.

Also, don't see why he would leave Europe in the prime of his career.

They would buy down Laba with allocation money to make him not a DP

Don't think he is playing much in Europe, plus, if he can get paid and play in NA where he is from, why not?

But I believe a large part of Laba being a DP is because of his transfer fee. His salary isn't very high so i'm not sure he can be turned into a non-DP with allocation although I don't know for sure. The one thing about MLS is that the league controls everything. They're often shady and they make up rules as they go so nobody can really say definitively what is or isn't possible until it actually happens. For all we know MLS executives could want Bradley so much that they invent a completely new rule that says each team is now allowed 3 normal DPs and one young DP. For years LA somehow fit a ton of amazing players into their team despite the fact that people thought there was no way they could fit them all under the cap.

And the thing about signings of Europe caliber players is that because the MLS schedule is different from the European schedule, Bradley could still go on loan to Europe regularly in the offseason if he really wants to play there as well. Beckham did it, Dempsey is doing it right now, Donovan did it, etc.

What does that even mean?

The only scenario is they get rid of him.

Not going to pretend like I know. I think it transfers some of his salary hit or something, which would then lower his salary to under DP standards I guess?

Some out there are saying we would be able to keep Laba still.

However, an article in the star that just came it, suggests he may have to go

In order to make room for Bradley on the roster, TFC would have to trade current designated player, Argentine Matias Laba. That deal would not have to be done for several weeks. There remains hope at TFC that he might be loaned out rather than dealt.
