he competes with lindholm in Anaheim, which would mean he competes with rielly in Toronto, hed be your #1 or your #2 pretty easily.

I've no issue with #2. I like Fowler though. He'd be a nice add. I'm also trying to calm Leaf nation. :D I think we have other options as I've outlined elsewhere.

Ducks don't need prospects they got a window they are trying to fit into. So it wouldn't work .

I still think Fowler has to maintain his great start for me to conclude that he's a top pairing defenseman. He absolutely is playing like one right now, but he's had streaks like this before.

With that said, a lot of this could be due to who he is paired with. Bieksa is awful, and he brings down whoever he plays with (last night it was Theodore). Bieksa was playing 20+ minutes a night last year with Fowler when he should have been playing, at most, 15 minutes. On the other hand, the Fowler-Manson pairing has looked great. I hope they keep it up.

As for the proposal, this deal doesn't incentivize the Ducks enough to move him before they really see what Fowler's capable of. They would be foolish to move him right now, unless they received an offer that they couldn't refuse. Theodore obviously isn't ready to step into his role. Plus, Fowler is on a cheap deal for a top 4 defenseman.

call me crazy but i wouldnt do a young dman with upside, another good prospect, a 2nd (likely 31-35) and a 3rd (61-65) for a #2-#3dman in fowler

Your safe cause that's a bunch of mediocre pieces that Ana would never accept. Keep all those defensemen as Ana is loaded with much better prospects at the position. It would cost more to get them to move a good young defenseman who they have I need to move. Go to bed each night and pray either of the defensemen listed in the OP as neither will become near as good as Fowler is.

connor freakin carrick is the main piece....this is shameful. Thankfully not many leaf fans agree here - some people are just beyond rationale.

It's a leaf prospect, he's automatically a sure thing.

Yup, just like Fowler sucks now but would immediately have posts asking if he's top 5 in the league if he was traded to Toronto.

There's that leafs hate that doesn't exist on HF

most of the leaf fans in this thread have acknowledged that its not a fair proposal for Anaheim

We're high on our prospects, just like you're high on yours. Carrick is not included in the group that we think could be NHL impact players, we're lucky if he's a top 4 at his peak

Leafs are in need of desperate help on defense and Anaheim would be a logical trade partner.

To Toronto:
D - Cam Fowler

To Anaheim:
D - Connor Carrick or D - Martin Marincin
LW - Andreas Johnsson
Ottawa's 2nd Round Pick in 2017
Toronto's 3rd Round Pick in 2017

Inferior pieces for a young, proven top paring D. Nothing enticing for Anaheim, just quantity for quality.

He does suck at being a top-pairing guy and I'll always be one to critisize him if he continues to play there. But even I know this is a steal for Toronto. Marincin's a bottom-pairing guy (could be a #4 but not ideal), Carrick 99% tops out as a #4D, while Johnson's a question mark (he's the 3rd best leafs prospect right now behind Kappy and Timashov imo).

It's like we're almost getting Fowler for free here.

Fowler sucks at having good advanced stats playing with a 3rd pair defense partner getting more defensive zone starts facing other teams scorers but his actual play is solid and the team results have been good with him in that role. Have Fowler playing with a defenseman with a good defensive game and can move the puck decently and his advance stats would be better. Advanced stats are highly influence by usage and teammates among other things.

They are hugely influenced by zone starts and teammates. But from what I've seen, the plays he makes in the micro-sense aren't the best. It's similar to Rielly in the sense that they're great at getting out of the zone (zone exits) but IMO they both struggle at making split-second decisions to make the perfect play (I.e small pass to an open F with constant pressure incoming).

I'm not one to comment on your D though, you guys know best. One thing I've noticed though is that managements across the league need to start making smarter decisions (I.e getting at least a temporary better D-man to pair). I mean, like why the hell is Risto paired with Georges, Rielly with Hunwick (not anymore thank god), Trouba with Stuart (probably left because of that lol), Fowler with Bieska (or whoever). It's like they don't want their rising young stars to succeed...
