yeah but we fans could be watching Yandle steamroll opponents now:sarcasm:

I still shake at where we would be had Chiarelli tried to save his job

Actually it would be rebuild not retool

I'm hoping they can work out a long term deal for him as soon as they are able to. I believe they have to wait until January to do so but I amy be wrong.

Can anyone shed some light on that?

Correct, from CBA:

"(iv) A Player who is party to a one-year SPC may not enter into an "extension" of such SPC prior to January 1 of the League Year covered by such SPC."

I use to think it would be great if he could have a career like Brian Rafalski. I honestly think he'll be better, his skating game is on another level.

Do I remember right if I say we saw Yandle+Vermette rumours here for something like Spooner, Krug+1st?

Higher. Yes these pieces too. But more.

For a guy in Vermette who likely would not have helped the team all that much (redundant skillset) and Yandle who (and I know I'm a homer) I wouldn't take over Torey Krug straight up.

you wish

go see what Arizona got for those two and it was more than that

Getting Vermette would have killed us completely, atleast now we have hope and potential.
Atleast Yandle could have been a player for us for a long time but Krug fits very well into our plans right now and should be cheaper to re-sign.

So Chia offered more than Spooner, Krug and 1st for those 2? :amazed:
I'm happy Chia is gone.

Go look up the deals Arizona made for those two - incredible

It's hard to compare those when they made those trades with 2 different teams and I don't know how they valued Krug and Spooner.

Don't dear go over to the main board with this nonsense :)

I know it's a stretch, Rafalski was a great player. Krug has always had the shot Rafalski has, but I think Krug's skating game is a lot better. Hopefully he can be relied on for 20+ minutes a game, that will be Krug's biggest test, is he a true top 4 D.

I imagine we all value Spooner more highly now than he was valued then. Spooner had like 3 points on the season at the TDL.

Still, as a PC supporter, it was that potential deal that really put me over the top. I understood the Seguin deal and was even OK with it at the time. I didn't like the Boychuk deal, but understood. But giving up SO MUCH future with your fingers crossed that Krejci and Chara and Seidenberg could pull it together was really reckless.

That being said, IF Krejci, Chara, and Siedenberg got to 100% and Hamilton didn't get hurt, adding Yandle and Vermette might have actually made these team a real contender. But, Krejci wasn't 100%. And while Chara and Seides eventually seemed to get close, it wasn't going to be enough.

Lucic Krejci Pastrnak
Marchand Bergeron Smith
Vermette Soda Eriksson
Kelly Campbell Talbot

Chara Hamilton
Yandle Seidenberg
Bart McQuaid

It would have been a truly desperation move and while it COULD have worked out (and, when healthy, that is a Clode team) it was so so far from being likely.

I don't think we would have been better with those 2 last year, kids line was our best line on the 2nd half and were our points leaders, while Vermette was really bad in Chicago and had something like 1 point in 18-20 games, when he got TT on his wing he woke up, also getting rid of Krug for Yandle wouldn't have made a big enough impact especially if we would have also lost Spooner.
A trade like that would have killed us.

Well, sure, 20/20 hindsight. At the time Spooner was a post prospect throw in for many on these boards and many pro-hockey people it seems (Buffalo), though. IF everyone had got back to health, and they didn't, I still think it COULD have worked...but I wouldn't have taken the risk (unless my job was on the line :) )

23 minutes, same as Hamilton is getting in Calgary.

Meanwhile Krug has 6 points and is a +2 and Hamilton has 1 point and is -3, both in 5 games played. Also, Hamilton has 8 PIM, Krug has 2.

I'd really like to see Hamilton fail, but truth be said - Calgary sucks right now as a team, Giordano has zero points and is like -5 in his first 5 games too. So lets give em some time.
