I mean he's a defenceman not a forward. It's not like he was sneaking behind the defence for a tap in.

Hedman also is given top opportunities and top minutes with Tampa's deadliest weapons - are his stats inflated too?

Why are you comparing an elite talent like Hedman to a journeyman like Raddysh?

nope...plenty of teams pay for potential....its why the Canes signed Jackson Blake to a long-term contract..and he delivered this year
same with the Habs and Hutson

The potential of a 70 point defencemen (who's already put up 70 points) should be higher than 8.5M.

Bouchard made 10.5M on a 4 year contract (with RFA years) coming off a 67 point season playing with McDavid and Draisaitl.

To be fair, the Leafs aren’t signing him for 70+ points. They’re hoping for 50 for sure, and a trigger man

Everyone keeps saying this "oh we only need/want him to hit 40 ish points"

problem is dude is 30 years old and has only hit that 40 point mark ONCE in his career, which was the clear outlier season he had last year, going into FA. At a certain point you are what you are. if he was 26, sure. 30? No.

1000% this is going to be a terrible contract and agreed as such by EVERYONE by year 2, 3 at the latest. For a team that should be going into a rebuild thats...not good.

Getting consistent PP1 time caused his point totals to go up, what a crazy thing.

Add in the PP point totals he got this year, to his past 2 seasons and hes sitting comfortably in the 50 point range both years.

Who agrees? I see numerous people saying this is a great move for Toronto. It’s the same old posters trashing the leafs as seen in every thread.

He was used ONCE as a top pairing dman. ONCE as a PP quarterback. He signed for under market value, with a rising cap, with a team that had 30 million in cap space lol.

He's had 3 full seasons in the NHL

First full season - 33 point pace
Second full season - 41 point pace
Third full season - 78 point pace

What would you value that defenceman at as a UFA?

Leafs lost Marner and McMann...and are basically Matthews, Nylander Knies (who they're looking to trade), and old man Tavares

Sens are younger and deeper...there's a reason they made and you didn't
Mckenna is coming. Cowan is looking great. They are certainly not looking to trade Knies. Just because teams are inquiring doesn’t mean he’s moving ffs.

Don't be mad at me when I bump this thread in 2 years.

great players will waive to go there and their management is smart
TB's pipeline is pretty darn thin after being an elite team for 10+ years to be able to move assets for anyone willing to go there. They'll stay competitive exactly as long as Kuch, Hedman, Point & Vasi are elite. We've seen slippage on Point & Hedman, and that's likely to continue and come for the others shortly.

Feels like you're splitting hairs here considering he had 37 in 73 last year(41p pace) and 33 the year before.

Consistently getting PP1 time, should make it easy for him to clear 40 even with the talent drop off in Toronto vs Tampa.

But they cannot go into a rebuild for 2-3yrs they don't have their 1st round picks.

I don't see how this works out well for the Leafs.
his shot means you cant cheat on Matthews on the PP, for that alone its a winning situation.
similar to how OV was always able to get his 1-timer off because you had to be aware of Carlson's shot and couldnt cheat on OV
...now, we just need to see if we can make it work, and last time Hiller was on the Leafs we had one of the Best PP in the league with Rielly as the QB with a soft wrister as the threat.
