Confirmed with Link: TOR sign RD Zach Bogosian [1 year, 1M]

Schenn was a 10:00 minute a night guy in the playoffs and Bogo was 17:00 so when it mattered they had a preference. Bogo was full time top 4 in 18-19. He is not strictly a bottom pairing guy if needed and will put pressure on Holl to perform or lose minutes. At that cost he is a nice add..
Before signing with Tampa let's remember that Schenn has played for Toronto, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Arizona, Anaheim and Vancouver. That's not including his time in the AHL with San Diego, (Anaheim's AHL team) Utica (Vancouver's AHL team) and he was even in Syracuse who is Tampa's AHL team. So I guess he wanted the guarantee of an NHL contract for the 2020-21 season.

Dallas made it all the way to the SCF with Khudobin in net and decent D; if we can execute well defensively this may finally be the year we probably make a deep run

As TB proved a player of Bogosian's ilk can be a contributing member of a successful team when deployed correctly, and does provide that underlying physicality that we all saw being very prevalent throughout the playoffs.

In my 10+ years on here it's the first time where I speculated about Toronto possibly signing or trading for a player and it happening on the same day.

Dubas realizes you need men on this team. Especially on the backend where veteran experience means so much. Men who play with some fire and compete. Balance the Leafs somewhat flyweight skill up front, and make it a bit tougher for the opposition.

He and Muzzin on two different pairings. It's going to provide a little more of what they have been lacking back there.

I like the upside of seeing what Toronto's medical staff and Underhill can do for him. If he's healthy and committed to the role, he's not the worst guy to have ready to move up if there's an injury.

A lot of people may not remember or know this but since we never got to land Alex Pietrangelo, we now got the next best thing because Bogosian went +1 spot earlier in the 2008 entry draft. :wg:

I always see this crap from people and it makes no sense. Like do we not see players each year have their values rebuilt on new teams? The Leafs need a different element for one thing.

More importantly, though, they need depth. Even if they're not great for 82 games, they need actual NHL players and multiple NHL players who can actually play. Can't be so thin that Marty Marincin is your first option when someone goes down again.

There is a flat cap. Teams who can spend are already bumping up against the ceiling. Teams who can't spend, well, can't spend because of the expected lack of gate revenue for at least part of next year. All that means is that when the music stops, there is a high chance that some decent NHL players are going to be left without jobs. By no means am I railing against either the Simmonds signing or this signing; I'd just rather wait and see who is available come training camp over signing those two for $1.1M above league minimum. That's the logic. You can agree or disagree with it, but it most certainly does make sense.

If it is Holl, though, who replaces him? Are we pencilling Lethonen in there? Are we giving Dermott a legitimate shot to lock down that spot this season? What if neither are up to the task? Then we just have a gaping hole in our top-4 RDs again.

Dermott I'd imagine, although Lehtonen has been great overseas he hasn't played an NHL game yet

Next up (and last but not least) will be the top 6 core.

We’ve changed the coach, reconfigured the D several times, rotated the bottom 6, changed backup goalies, etc.

Now the 4 wise men will need to bring that Dubas harder to play against or what else do you adjust.

There will be 2 areas of concern as they are the bus drivers.

1. The 4 together just aren’t hard enough to play against. Yes or no.

2. The 4 together (at combined salary) are leaving you just too barren throughout the lineup for enhanced support.
