Confirmed with Link: TOR sign Jimmy Vesey (1 year, 900K)

I don't know much about this guy, I will say this, every player Dubas picks up should have the quality of being competitive and one who is tough to play against for the opposition. Be it a physical game, a guy who fights along the board, drives the net, or what have you.

Even depth players who don't make the team, must have these qualities. So, if and when there are injuries, you slot another player in and have a base expectation. It's clear this core has another year, so, the bottom six have to be reliable defensively and a difficult bunch.

Especially at LW.. goes to show that Robertson isn’t guaranteed a spot yet

You could be right about Robertson. I thought he'd be good for a spot because he played in some of the season's biggest games. The grind of a 'full season' (or whatever we end up getting) could prove to be a tougher test. Will be interesting to see who emerges with starting spots out of this.

I told you he was going to sign with the Leafs because his Dad is a scout here. Is he going to play with Bozak and JVR?

He seems like a legit NHLer and might even be 3rd line level.

Feels like we are set up for a 3-for-1 type of deal.

Especially since we have been connected to forwards like Wallmark, Janmark, and Perry, all of which are still available

Are these connections reliable?

Andersen, Engvall and one of Holl/Dermott for Kuemper and a boat load of futures (might come through multiple trades)? Sign one of those forwards to replace Engvall. Should leave us enough cap space to fit everyone in.

I was pretty underwhelmed when I saw this pop up on my phone earlier in the night. Looking at his stats, seems like he had a bad year last year (but who wouldn't with Buffalo). Previous 3 years he scored 16-17 goals. That would be major production for 900k.

I assumed he was a small guy. Very surprised to see he's 6'3.

Would have preferred Perry. Confused about what direction we're going but not in a bad way (more cap-wise). I assume we're going to see some more bodies moved in and out over the next few days.

I think the direction Dubas is going is to stack up on NHL experienced players since it's a Buyers Market. He probably has an idea of who is starters will be, then, add depth and be able to move players in and out, handle injuries etc.

This is the opportunity of a lifetime to operate this way, due to the uncertainties of next year. It is going to be a tough time to be a minor player trying to make the next step to the NHL, due to the glut of available, cheap NHL experienced talent.

Comparing him to Johnsson - they both have similar TOI, Vesey has played more NHL games, while Johnsson has the one season over 40 points... on a offensive-gifted line-up. Vesey has played on crappy teams. Either way, I hope he uses his size (if anyone can give info that would be appreciated). For 900k you can't really complain.

I feel there will be more trades to come as there is a serious log jam now.

Not a bad signing.

Does he actually use his Size though? Like Physical? Or is he gonna be another Gauthier?

I'm guessing the pressure is now on Mikheyev to sign cheap or head back to Russia. Perhaps a sign and trade?

I think a big factor was position.
Adding a LW was a better fit than adding another RW.

I don’t think so....my math shows the cap number at about 83 mil with him at 2mil and a 4c like Wallmark at a mil ( and a 22 man roster).
There’s a few ways to shave 1.5 mil.

I haven't really ever watched him play, but he posted a +12 on an awful team. Maybe that's not everything, but it's probably something.
If he can play both ends of the ice I'll take it.

5-on-5, Vasey was on for 5 more goals against then Gauthier, but on for 20 more goals for. He's only making $225,000 more. I'd say this is a win.

Has to be at this point.
I was thinking the same thang sire. Respect. And nice. Maybe even nylander for some tougher D-guy. And by D-guy, I in no means meant any druggy type of fellow, just a Defensive man. But yeah, Vesey might get a bigger role with our talented stars. I ain't surprised on that dirt there. We'll have to see this through ladies and gents.

It's greasy, but this guy scored 16, 17, 17 consecutive goals in three consecutive years before he played for a terrible Sabers team last year. Vesey averaged a touch under 15 minutes per night over the course of those three yeara with the Rangers.

It's not unthinkable that given Toronto's left wing depth, that Vesey could play 18 minutes per night (including PP2 time) on either of Matthews' or Tavares' left wing, and have a 20 / 20 season, for 900k. Essentially a bigger Andreas Johnson, for 2.5 million dollars less.

Greasy Vesey could be the key to freeing up money to make a move for Weegar. Add Brassard or Wallmark and trade Kerfoot, Dermott and Holl and this fits under the cap.

Vesey / Matthews / Marner
Hyman / Tavares / Nylander
Mikheyev / Wallmark / Barabanov
Perry / Spezza / Simmonds
Robertson

Reilly / Brodie
Muzzin / Weegar
Lehtonen / Bogosian
Sandin

Before you scoff at that... It's not unrealistic.

Up front, Vesey is just filling a hole that was left by Andreas Johnson...our depth charts up front basically look like this:
[TBODY]
LWCRW

Hyman
Mikheyev
Vesey
Robertson
Matthews
Tavares
Kerfoot
Spezza
Engvall
Boyd
Malgin
Marner
Nylander
Simmonds
Barbanov
Anderson
[/TBODY]
Realistically, of the bottom 4 centres in that list, certainly possible that any may move over to the wing and bump the likes of Robertson/Anderson up to the pressbox or down to the minors.

I'd add Barabanov on your right side before Anderson...
