I made a big stink about not wanting Gio, he is old and slow now. WHAT A FREAKING WASTE OF ASSETS. The Leafs are going to be a first round exit. Of all the D men available, Dumbass gets an old guy.

Veteran D Men are better thsn green D Men as long as they don't rely on speed. So for instance, a Tyson Barrie at age 30 may be less valuable than say, a 38 year old Chara. Ditto for a younger players if their objective is to have a strong Defensive Core that hits, clears creases and blocks shots. Vet defenders understand positional play and their primary duty to defend.

If you are looking for scoring threats than you trade for that. Leafs need a defense first mentality, not the next Bobby Orr.

Aside from all the metrics about him that says he's still a decent top 4 defenseman. But you do you.
You don't need a metric to tell you this is a pure rental, because of age. Look for the Leafs to give up a decent amount for the scrap heap pure rental

Gio is still a great powerplay QB with a lot of experience. He's a great acquisition depending on what they gave up.

All I know is that there needs to be a new rule about posting a thread confirming a trade if it's gonna take an hour to get the details.

The Lindholm trade yesterday did as well. Not much fans can do with the insiders desperate to be first to announce.
