He is a good skater. Can handle physicality. 5’11, but 200+ lbs and is built solidly. Advanced numbers suggest he’s slightly more defensive leaning (not sure about this year’s). Can prevent zone entries, but his zone exits are average at best. Position can be more consistent. He’s good enough for third pairing, but is just okay and below average when he’s deployed with top 4 minutes, but there needs to be a large enough sample size to conclude this. He just didn’t receive enough time behind toronto’s depth at LHD.

Offensively, he’s not a chance or opportunity generator. He’s like average offensively. If he generates offense, it’s through his passing. His shot is not good. He should only quarterback the powerplay if your top 2-4 options for defensemen are injured.

Also: his straight line speed is good. He is mobile and shifty. He just needs to know how to use his skating to get better positioning against forwards.

Edit: actually, this year, he’s been more offensively leaning. But before this year, his metrics indicate more defense than offense (preventing shots against toronto rather than generating shits against other teams).

I see him listed as 5'9 190 lbs and he hits stuff. A stocky guy who throws his weight is better than a bigger guy who skates in circles and avoids contact come playoffs. So, he will be a welcome addition.
