polak is not a good defenseman lol

Yeah what a dumb signing. Huge risk on a one year deal at probably a low cap hit, especially for a team who won't be near the cap ceiling. They'll even get another draft pick for him at the deadline. Idiots.

Oh those mighty Maple Leafs, the misfortune of being the only team in the league that suffered injuries to their lineup. And the Leafs traded for Andersen, they're the only team that made a move to get better this off season too. When you make these claims in a vacuum of course the Leafs are better.

A whole point behind the Oilers but their best player was injured (see how that works?) and they address needs by trade, free agency and the draft (again see how that works...)

The problem is everyone else got better. Again tell me 5 teams the Leafs are better than, I'd love read some concrete examples.

I completely agree. I think they look better than last year to start the season and will definitely be more exciting, but on paper I feel like they may still have the worst team in he league so I can't understand why anyone would be surprised with a dead last finish again. Will they overachieve and finish higher? Definitely possible, but I'm not banking on it or hoping for it. If they finished higher than Edmonton next year I would be extremely surprised.

If he can help teach a worth ethic to the kids, it's worth it even if he never plays a game.

Did some of you really think the Leafs were going to dress 15 kids next year with guys like Lou and Babcock running the show? That's what it seems like.

Excellent 3rd pairing regular season defenseman and decent post season defenseman through two rounds.

Too bad he played terribly after that.

We've only got Zaitsev (zero NHL games), Carrick and Carrado as right shot D. We needed depth, this is a cheap (probably) depth fail-safe if those guys fail or injuries.

I don't think anyone will trade for him next trade deadline after his performance in the playoffs

lol. cue the polak for a 4th rumors again.
yet we paired him with a forward with 1g/7pts to get TWO 2nd round picks.

someone will easily pay a 2nd again. the guy had a bad series vs pittsburgh, but overall a very steady year

Zaitsev, Polak and Carrick could be very solid, especially if Zaitsev and Carrick pan out. both guys have a lot of potential.

Would be funny if they flipped him for a 2nd rounder at the TDL again only to resign him AGAIN in the next free agency.

I like this move very much. Pollack was a character guy in the dressing room as well as being a steady presence on the Leafs blue line last year.

They will probably only be able to do that so many times - especially if the rebuild plan works out according to schedule. I can see them trading him for a pick at the 2017 deadline but they will probably be buyers at the 2018 one.

There's also a full season to play in between these past playoffs and next year's deadline...so there's that...

I think the leafs need to stop thinking about signing players just to trade them and thinking about signing players that will help their team win over the next few years.

The goal of signing a player shouldn't be to get more draft picks at TDL, it should be that the player will help contribute to the team winning and pushing it forward.
