I was going to say when. But if Engvall scores his first goal. After reading the Sandin thread... Oh boy. Especially if it is in the playoffs. People will come out. Either of hiding cause they didn't want to admit they liked him and now they want him back.
I've seen enough of Engvall to be happy that he's no longer a Leaf no matter how he plays with the Isles. Dude has had several seasons to prove that he can be a good player with the Leafs and outside of a few good games here and there every season he's been mostly a letdown and a non-factor.

Small sample size, but I already like a player like Acciari much more than I've ever liked Engvall in all his time as a Leaf.

Hey all the stud now has 3 goals in 3 games. Leading the Isles offense in this Ca trip. Honestly he’s been a great player for the Isles and he’s improving and learning the Isles work ethic every game. After a couple of games he’s really noticeable out there. Seems to do all the right things. I love how he head’s straight for the net to unleash that wrist shot of his. On a grinding team like the Isles it’s nice to have someone who focuses on scoring goals but he’s also a smart in the defensive side of the game. So I guess we have to thank you guys! I can’t believe we got this guy for a 3rd rounder.

Wow, 3 whole games

As I understand it that means his entire career up to this point means nothing and he's now an elite goalscorer

If you're going to come over and gloat choose a better player and have a more relevant team, we don't really care about the Isles

Think he will succeed in the Islanders as you guys got enough grinders and checkers on the team and lacks offense upfront, while the Leafs lacks grinders and checkers but got a lot of offensive talents.

Go back to rehab

From an Islanders perspective he makes a good fit because we have enough checkers and grinders, we sorely lack the speed he brings

Yeah he really opens up the ice for the Isles and he’s surprisingly a good passer too.

Wow that’s only 2 less goals than Horvat has in 18 games! When do you think Lou gives him 8x8?

That is concerning. I hope they can resign him next year unless this is an aberration it looks like he can easily be a 2nd line player on the Isles. They don’t have enough of these offensive minded players on the team.

Sometimes a trade is needed to wake someone up. As mentioned above he had many years to figure it out here and Im not sure he ever would. I wouldnt drink the Kool-aid just yet though as he's given me hope in the past too. Wish the best for him!

After getting demoted to the 4th line on a fringe playoff team..... and has success on the California trip. Those are points night now. That trip is a long way from what it used to be

To be honest I've never had a chance to ever observe Engvall play on the Leafs because I only have the time due to my work schedule to watch my Isles play so I give you guys the benefit of the doubt that you know what you have seen. From an outsider looking in and watching him play for the first time he appears to be a pretty good player from what I have seen so far. In the 3 goals he scored these past 3 games he drove to the net and let go a pretty nice and accurate wrist shot. He makes excellent passes. He has an explosive first few steps and enters the offensive zone with speed. He's responsible defensively and his long arms and reach and helps clog the neutral zone. It's hard to imagine why he was so despised on the Leafs. I get he's not a physical player but he doesn't seem to be built for that kind of game. It looks like he's built for speed with his long fast legs and with some offensive upside. He also plays a pretty responsible 2 way game. I think he just needed a change of scenery and any player who plays for the Isles won't make if he's just floating around and not working. Maybe that aspect of the Isles game is rubbing off on him.

I think what happened with him on the Leafs is they tried to make a round peg fit in a square hole. The Leafs have the top 4 to provide the offense and needed a defensive minded checking 3rd liner which is something he is not but assumed they could convert him into one given his size. He's an offensive minded player and I think on an offensively limited team like the Isles he's going to really shine.

Imagine going to another teams board to gloat about Pierre f***ing Engvall. I think that honestly says more about the state of your own team then anything else.

He has more to give.
Leafs fans need someone to despise, Engvall was one of them.

If it ever really clicks for him, he could easily be a top 6 forward.

He's probably better off away from Keefe.

As one of the few Leaf fans that actually liked Engvall, I think your assessment is wrong. He’s always been pretty good defensively and has always had spurts of offence. He has games that make you go “okay here it comes that’s what weNre looking for!” and then disappears for a few games. He’s honestly built like a Greek god statue, so his lack of physicality was just not comprehensible. Most importantly, is was his complete lack of effectiveness in the playoffs that was the most frustrating. There’s a reason Dubas made a point of saying the Leafs were looking to add players at the deadline who would put it all on the line and were high compete. Because that’s not Engvall. Hope he figures it out.

Thanks. Like I said, I don't know his story with the Leafs at all so at least now I know what to look for.

Leafs fanbase has a huge irrational portion, who always need to be angry at someone. Engvall was one of them. He's a decent player, but perhaps we just needed a change, and maybe even Engvall did. It's nice that he's had three goals, in three games, but clearly 50% shooting isn't sustainable, and he'll likely fade back to a normal average and do nothing for a bit at some point.

He looked good in those highlights but I wonder if Lou sat him down and had a nice chat with him or the change of scenery was enough. I would not have signed him for what Kyle did and gone after somebody like Acciari last summer. I won't miss him but don't mind seeing him do well on the Island.
