He was a 7th rounder who became an asset more that was advertised. He was really good first year but then once he got the money, he pulled back.

Engvall sucks ass and isn’t worth more than a third. One of the most frustrating leafs to watch, especially come playoffs.

My least favorite leaf in recent memory however is Freddie Gauthier. How can you be 6’5, 240 with speed, on a checking line and not finish a single check ever? If he could use his size, he’d still be in this league and be an effective bottom 6 player for sure. He was solid defensively, had ok skill but wow he was frustrating to watch for his lack of ability to put together anything.
Gauthier had Speed? Were you watching Leaf games on fast forward or something? He could barely skate.

I wore my Engvall jersey today, starting to get over the loss of the Giraffe, I know it will get better, but not today! no more Button hooks, or flybys to watch!
Or possession killing shots to the goalie’s crest.

I didn’t say he was fast, I just said considering he was 6’5 and 240, he was fairly mobile for his size. It wasn’t impeding him from playing a physical role on the forecheck and finishing checks or even attempting them. He had the tools to be successful as a grinder but no toolbox.

Maybe, but he got that puck into the opponent's end and one of TO's top 2 lines have another OZ start. In the Edmonton game, the first Edmonton goal was scored against TO because the 3rd line couldn't move the puck out of TO's zone.

He was missed right away and he will continue to be missed, TO will have to use O'Rielly to do Engvall work, I think O'Rielly could be better used but without proper support I doubt O'Rielly will be much better offensively than Engvall. I thought a line of O'Rielly and Engvall as the basis of a 3rd line might be very worthwhile.

Think of the millions in lost career earnings for a guy like Gauthier if only he even just pretended to have a mean streak as a professional and just mechanically went through the motions of completing a check every shift.

So frustrating to watch. Drove me nuts. I have no idea how it’s possible to play with so little intensity but somehow, he managed to do it. I would have been fired for harassment if I was his coach.

The Islanders traded 3 rd for him.
Iam truly shocked of all teams that traded for him.

If only we could have grafted Robertson's attributes into Egnvall's body.

We woulda had a Hella player on our hands if you could combine the 2......

Otherwise, insidiously maddening that a guy with his physical gifts couldn't be bothered to give a rip more often. He really could have been physically dominant and create more space/opportunities for himself if someone would have just pissed into his Corn Flakes every morning.

I was going to say when. But if Engvall scores his first goal. After reading the Sandin thread... Oh boy. Especially if it is in the playoffs. People will come out. Either of hiding cause they didn't want to admit they liked him and now they want him back.

Or narrative flippers. ex: "Size wins championships in the playoffs. A team in need of playoff size traded a 6'5", 219 pound player?! Not a smart move for a team that has failed to win without size in the playoffs!"

This thread will be a mess.

There are many with good reason, like Hyman, Kadri, Marchment and Brown, that we have seen this fanbase wanting back. But I've also seen Kapanen, Johnsson, Bozak, JVR, Malgin, Andersen, Campbell etc... Have we had any Ceci or Barrie yet? Ozhiganov?

Hate them while they are here, love/miss them when they are gone. Leafs Nation baby.

Also yes this was mostly tongue in cheek and partially exaggerated but like also... I'm not wrong either.
