Its a myth to think that you can get quality for cheap. It doesn't work like that in the world. You ALWAYS pay for quality.... whether you're buying shoes or hockey players.

League minimum vets and ELC players can bring quality for cheap. The Leafs won’t be filling out their depth with UFA’s, unless it’s Spezza types
Only if we can waive injured players.
We have a ton of replacement players that If one gets injured then we have to move the rest.... unless everyone who gets injured goes on LTIR.

Generally speaking.... no they can't. Sure there are exceptions to the rule but those are far and few between.
I mean. Look at the list now. There are about 20 legit nhl players who are looking for jobs.

exactly. It will be juggling to have money for transactions and if you have bad luck with injuries, it could go south quick
Is it good enough to make the playoffs with 10 other players that will contribute next to nothing? This team barely made the playoffs last year. Where has this team improved from last year? Virtually all the players you mentioned were with the team last year! Are you sure the changes they made are improvements? Is Kerfoot an improvement over Kadri? Is Barrie an improvement over Gardiner? Is Cici and improvement over Z. Have they improved in any category at all? Highly QUESTIONABLE!

1.) is Kerfoot an improvement over the garbage version of Kadri we saw last year? Where he couldn’t play 3rd line c and misses about a million free shots in the slot on the pp?
Very possibly.
2.) is Barrie an improvement over Gardiner. Yes.
Is he a big improvement over the Gardiner we saw who couldn’t move for about 3/4 of the year. Absolutely
3.) is Ceci an improvement over zaitsev? The one we saw with muzzin. Probably not.

Simply not true. The Leafs had eye value of league minimum players last season than they did the 6+ mil Marleau.
Every offseason there are tons of replacement level vets you can grab from free agency to fill out the bottom of the lineup with. Which is exactly what the Leafs are doing.
I will bet; that, the backup goaltender will be no worse than the starting goaltender. Both will be as bad as the team in front of them, and not good enough to get them into the playoffs.

He pretty much got Tavares money when you account for term. I recall a few Leaf fans being adamant that he wouldn't get that when I suggested that would be the ballpark he likely gets, citing things like "Tavares was UFA" and "goal scorers get more money".
It just seems a bit weird that now that Marner is signed for that amount, Leaf fans are universally praising Dubas for a fantastic deal when prior to the signing, a lot of those same Leaf fans were acting like anything above $10 would be overpayment.
I like it. Spend money on good players no more clarkson type stupidity. We’ve got a bunch of proven, legit players locked up for the next while. Take the swing while you can!

It is an overpayment but its manageable under the Leafs cap structure and is better than some of the rumored alternatives.
Things aren't always black and white/ good vs bad.
Barely made the playoffs? Riiiiight. This team essentially had their playoff spot and 1st round matchup with Boston locked up months before the end of the season. They were just coasting at the end of the year because they had nothing to play for. They weren't catching TB and MTL wasn't catching them. No they don't have a massively improved team from last year, but they don't need to be. This team on paper is one of the best in the entire league which is why they're #2 in the Vegas odds to win the cup right now.
You're also completely disregarding their biggest source of improvement: the development of our young early 20's aged core. Not to mention for some reason you're assuming guys like Mikheyev or Moore are contributing "next to nothing" just because they don't make a lot of money? This roster doesn't just have star power; it's got two 40+ point players lined up to play on their 3rd line right now. That's some pretty decent depth. You're so far off on your analysis here.
Actually, most Leaf fans are more upset about the amount than they should be, because even many Leaf fans don't understand how good Marner is or how contract valuation works. That said, most are happy to have an insanely good core locked in, as they should be.
