I'm not in love with the money coming back for Zaitsev and i don't know if Kadris decent contract alone make up for it. 5 years of Zaitsev is a very long time and he's paid like something he just isn't.
Zaitsev makes more than Klingberg for longer term. It's an anchor.

If you watched the Sens during their cup run, I would definitely say Dion helped in the locker room and on the ice, he was in no way the carrier or anything, but he brought experience to a youngish team, I don't think that the Sens would have made it that far without him though, he had some key plays in the final two rounds. I'm not saying he's ten times better than Z but he was better in the role he was in

I see. So you watched and thiught he helped in the locker room? I would love to know how you saw that.

That sens team saw some flukey runs by some unsuspecting players. Phaneuf was not one. If you believe in advanced metrics just about every one says phaneuf was getting caved in at all times on the ice for them. As in some of the worst in the league. 45% corsi. Sikilar scoring chance %. Sikilar high danger chance %. Plain and simple he was just a big liability.

I woukd say the only way he "helped" them was by not being as bad as cowen. But make no mistake he was not a good dman by that point.

The leafs dumped him for a bunch of terrible pieces in return. Pieces that were gone sooner than phaneuf would be. They preferred a bunch of short term liabilities over one big long term one, and thats exactly what the sens are still dealing with. That one long term liability.

And I'm telling you you're gonna need to add something valuable to Z to trade him for a 7th.

I live 20mins outside Toronto, tell me more about their cap situation
We will see!!!

Again, i would prefer a cap situation over a lack of good player situation like other teams.

Not even being bias here but prior to Tavares arriving here, I would put Kadri in the conversation for one of the best contracts in the league. Not sure where exactly he'd rank but he's damned good value.

and the same amount of points as the legend Roman Polak.

He is legendary, true beauty.

Every GM in the NHL knows the Zaitsev contract may make a player like Kapanen this summer available for futures. The NTC, which kicks in this summer, only makes things even worse, as he will have to be protected in the expansion draft. An other GM, who solves this riddle for Toronto, should be fired immediately.

Or....another plausible scenario is a team needs an NHL caliber RHD and trading for one that plays 20 minutes a night could actually help fill a hole for them? Again, 4M is not the boat anchor people are making it out to be for a serviceable RHD. It's bad no doubt, but manageable. I have no doubt there'd be a number of teams willing to take Zaitsev for a small add by the Leafs.

You’d have to give the Blues a reason to trade Sanford. He’s a low cost player with upside. I’d also have to consider the expansion draft ramifications of a trade.
