His last deal was signed with Chicago, got moved at the '23 Trade Deadline [along with Sam Lafferty] for Toronto'a 2025 1st, Toronto's 2026 2nd [and Joey Anderson].

Teams would not defer salary if the AAV wasn't lower

The player gets tax benefit from deferred salary

Team needs to receive some benefit otherwise they would not make that type of contract.

McCabe is a legit # 4 D. Everyone who plays with improves and he’s physical and good defensively.

Yeah I mean that's a form of circumvention of the cap I thought, I didn't even know that was allowed under the cap until I just saw it was used for this.

McCabe is a defensive dman who's average defensively at best, can hit but fights worse than Galchenyuk. Bottom pairing defender on a Cup contender, but he was a must sign because the Leafs need to keep the dynasty totogether.

You can say a lot of things about Leaf fans, but I think it's pretty obvious that the entire fanbase is starving for playoff success and absolutely do not think Matthews MVP season is equivalent to "three cups". Asinine comment.

Every single Leaf fans would rather Matthews not play for his entire MVP year if it meant we won the cup (most would be okay with the trade-off for a loss in the conference finals).
