Proposal: TOR - CHI Hyman and Sparks for Darling (3 Player Special)

Well it looks like the Enroth rumour is dead and gone. Time for Lou to strengthen the goaltending more. There is a wealth of wingers in Toronto. Chicago could use Hyman's work ethic and versatility. Crawford is going to play close to 60 games next season. Sparks or Johansson could share the rest.

Scott Darling

Zach Hyman
Garret Sparks

Does not make sense to trade for someone you are going to expose unless you are just giving up garbage. If the Leafs were to trade for a back up I would hope it would be someone exempt from the expansion draft.

Chicago's cap situation long-term isn't resolved, and Crawford may get moved yet(if a goalie market opens up). They need a backup they feel can take over if needed. Supposedly they've felt Darling can do it(so I've read; I disagree). With Sparks as backup, they have to hang on to Darling, and they really have no other moves to make to reduce cap.

leafs options are ramo/enroth.
or grab a guy like berra or hutchison on waivers.

if they trade for a backup, it will be for nothing of value.

I am a Leafs fan and I don't think Hyman is all that good. I think he's ok, but the overcrowded winger position the Leafs have make this decision easy.

Too bad for Toronto that they have to give up an asset, but they have yet to hire a back-up.

I think the Leafs would rather pick up a free agent or a goaltender off waivers. No panic. No need to waste assets here. They aren't likely to trade for a waiver-exempt goalie either because they want someone with experience, and I'm sure they'll find one.

It isn't a three-way trade.

It's a three-player trade: two-for-one. That's all.

I think with the glut of wingers the Leafs have something or someone will inevitably get wasted.

Las Vegas Night Hawks will not need 30 freaking goalies! They only need a couple! There will no doubt be going after someone like Fluery or Reimer, etc.

Thats 100% right.

The thing is, I think the Leafs will take a longer look and evaluate their assets before cutting them loose because they need to know what they have first.

Percy and Harrington were certainly in play for an eventual promotion to the Leafs last year, but they didn't make the cut and were let go. Expect more of the same at every position. That's why they're signing more prospects than they could ever use.

On the other hand, the Richard Panik trade didn't look so good. Although he was older and had more experience, I still don't think they had a very good handle on what they were trading (or getting back), and I really don't expect that too happen too often under this management group.

It doesn't look like Sparks will amount to much (yet), but the other guy is still a black-box -- the Leafs really don't know what is inside. Too soon to send him on his way.

I like how Andersen has started about 40 games a year on average so far in his career and leafs fans don't feel the need to have a quality backup...

so we should just trade one of our better prospects for a "quality" 27 year old with just 43 games of NHL experience?

has a young goalies stock ever taken so much of a hit after a few bad games as this kid?

sparks had a .936SV% in the ECHL 2 years ago, .928% in the AHL this year...and only just turned 23 six weeks ago. 15 games in the NHL doesnt mean much as a 22 year old. he certaintly deserves another chance

Better prospects?

The same better prospect who's played a whole 16 NHL games?!

What did Hyman do that left such an impression on you? Can't our winger depth do something better than what he can offer?
