I imagine CBJ have no interest having 20+ M of undersized wingers on their top 6 RW with their need of a top line center.

Even with his injury concerns and inconsistent defensive play, this would be a deal that makes the Leafs better IMO. CBJ I am not sure I can say the same.

They drafted Fantilli for that last year but if anything they’d look into bringing in a legit 2C to go with Fantilli

Especially when Werenski is more valuable position and player. Not to mention the deal Marner will ask for moving forward.

It doesn't make sense for either team.

Columbus already has Gaudreau and Kent Johnson. Marner is better but its not a black hole in the lineup that filling it justifies creating a black hole elsewhere.

Werenski was one of the top 5v5 D in the league this year, but his overall profile is similar to Rielly in that neither are great PP QBs. Both on the left side, both look for similar minutes.

Zero chance the Leafs get a young A list D man for Marner. Maybe they can get Seth Jones. But more likely, if they want an A list D it’s an older guy. More like Doughty.
