why are you so terrified at the thought of letting Mumbles walk , we can just as easily lose in the first rd without him as we have with him

but maybe and this is a scary thought , we can drastically improve without him just like the Islanders did when he walked out on them !
Fear of change, also known as metathesiophobia, is a common anxiety disorder that can make it hard to adapt to new situations. It can be triggered by small or big life changes.

Causes

  • Past experiences: Our brains may be wired to prefer routine and predictability.
  • Fear of the unknown: The unknown can cause anxiety because it represents potential threats or challenges.

Symptoms

  • Avoiding new situations or major life changes
  • Feeling overwhelmed when faced with the prospect of change
  • Struggling to pursue goals

How to cope
  • Understand the underlying causes: Understanding the root causes can be a significant step towards overcoming the fear of change.

  • Practice positive self-talk: Transform your negative thoughts into positive-self talk and affirmations.

  • Create vision boards: Set short- and long-term goals.

  • Journal: Journaling can help you process your feelings.

  • Practice meditation: Meditation can help you build a more adaptable mindset.

  • Seek social support: Consider talking to a friend or family member about your feelings.

  • Consider therapy: Therapy can help you build a more adaptable mindset.

Ridiculous. He'll be 38 when this contract ends. This has Patrick Marleau written all over it. It's also disappointing. He got paid, he's set. A team discount would have been nice. Spezza and Giordano understood this and were willing to help the team to hopefully win.
The lease on my 7 year old Honda CRV is coming due. Should I buy it back or should I use the money to lease a new CRV or better yet, a Mustang GT?

It was great they took deals but Spezza had 26 and 27 point seasons before joining the Leafs, while Tavares is almost ppg.
For me, 3 x 5 would have been a good deal.

Tampa according to reports offered SS 3m on a long term deal , they basically told him him thanks for your service including taking an actual discount on your last deal but we'd rather try to improve the team instead of running it back with a declining player . Kopitar is and has always been a much better all around player than JT and he was a major reason they won 2 cup in his tenure there.

Pavelski was also a much better all around player then JT and surprisingly aged extremely well justifying his deal with the Stars gave him as a ufa , JT is free to go sell himself to the highest bidder as a ufa like Pav did but i'm not going to base what he's worth to the Leafs considering he's failed for his 6 yrs in the playoffs on what he may get in the ufa market .

1-You can't compare one of worst city to convince player vs team florida team or even californoa team whobare pretty praised by player

2- Kopitar signed 7M for his 37/38 with a salary cap much lower. Take a kopitar of 35 with a salary cap drastically raising, it would be around 9-10M

A pavelski who signed at 7 like 5 year ago when he joined Dallas, the same deal this summer would be like 9-10M. Every contract of good player will raise, yes more money available but also meaning every contract will going up

another Leaf fan who believes it's their obligation to defend re-signing JT with their life due to believing the world will end if we don't overpay him again !

i have a question , what is it you believe will happen if the team lets him walk and uses his money elsewhere . do you think the team will crumble without JT hanging around the crease ?

You leased a Honda crv for 7 years? lol!
better value than leasing JT has been for the Leafs !

He sounds good at 4-5m for a few years.

I would put his and Marners money towards some higher quality depth and see what pops up. Probably stay cap flexible to accommodate McDavid even if low % we land him

I don't think its a necessary...but a guy like jt with a cap raising of 7 M for next 3 year probably gonna hit 9M/3 years in free agency and maybe even more. Reacting like JT at 7M is a huge overpay, i think a lot of people will be highly surprise how high contract of free agent will be next summer. Don't forgot EVERY TEAM having an extra 7,5 M to spend anywhere... A total of 240 M just free like that without anything to do and we didn't talked about team who's already having a lot of cap space.

In 3 years we will have multiple elderly players, goalies to sign. Matthews etc.

Dubas math got us in trouble and essentially blew our near lock on being a contender out the door. You are proposing more Dubas math's and logic to fix the situation. You could work for MLSE thinking like that.

I was just going to say. This is Dubas logic. We can always trade a 1st to get rid of him right?

When I invest, I invest in the fastest depreciating assets I can find, that have virtually no demand.

Smart stuff MLSE

JT contract would be done before a future matthews contract would kick in...

Dubas made mistake with contract, maybe but no human in this planet would be able everything happening with Covid19. It was like a dream and maybe without covid salary cap would already be like at 110 M+? Who's know but team will still spend with expectqtion, its how its working

I'd rather try Bennet at 8 and Rantanen at 13 than Marner at 12 and Tavares at 7. Proven hard nosed winners who have performed when it mattered most vs soft overpaid losers that are STILL trying to nickle and dime the f*** out of the team.

At least it's TRYING something different vs overpaying the same sad bozos.
This is the reason they are easy to dislike. Marner being the worst with Matthews a close second. We could live with overpaying the guy who puts up 50 goals in his sleep and has won major awards. No thanks to the guy with the most expected Selkes and Molson Cups.

I could live with that and I would consider that a team discount. We don't get enough team discounts from local boys. Tavares could seal his reputation here doing that. Instead, it looks like he wants a few dollars more.

Why not extend the contract to 5 years at $4.75 million or something? More real cash and stretches out his Toronto tenure to a 5 year term, taking him to 40. Gives him more security and money on paper and lowers the AAV. In 3 years time he’s probably a $2 million player anyway.

That is if you want him back.

This is what I actually expected them to do

A potential thought is they're hedging bets in case Matthews leaves at the end of his current deal and it makes them easier to retool

Giordano isn't a good example, his discount contract was signed at an age you project Tavares to reach after this next contract.

i don't give a f*** what JT or a ''guy'' like JT signs for as a ufa since i have zero desire to sign a player like that !

JT has never helped us win in the playoffs where he averages at about a 50 pt pace so why is it you feel it's our obligation to overpay him like he's a high demand ufa ?

Gio is an example of a player who left about 1-2m on the table to re-sign with us . Mumbles doesn't seem to want to leave one dollar and he's given no reason to believe would !

Most likely.
MLSE seems to be pretty comfortable with this hellish limbo. Not good enough to have a Cup run, not bad enough to get high draft picks. It´s the worst spot to be.
Even if Dubas didn’t put a NMC on the end of Marner’s deal, they would never ever consider trading him. And ok, maybe they could even keep him but signing Nylander at 11.5 made that pretty stupid. God I am so sick of this! Sacrifice depth for soft offensive players who wilt under pressure, rince and repeat.

I assume Knies is good as gone too if they resign Marner. Unreal. How is Shanahan still employed?

You prefer a Domi 2.0 at 5- 5,5M and think that will make you better come playoff... Your choice

JT has had exactly one good playoff series and zero with us in his entire career yet you act like he's irreplaceable , very strange thought process and why is it that you believe our only 2 choices would be re-signing JT or signing a more expensive Domi ?

I remember when he walked out on the Islanders , people thought that team would be doomed for years but then they went on to have the most playoff success they had in 40 years .

JT and Marner can go get their money in Chicago and play on a line with Bedard. There's another galaxy brain named Kyle in Chicago handing out millions to Foligno, Perry, Mrazak etc.
With all due respect, don't you expect most teams to re-sign the players they drafted/developed? I understand that Marner is a polarizing personality to fans. I suppose Tavares is too. Look at Nylander. Not exactly a winning pedigree, but he's going through the life span of a NHLer: drafted, developed on the Marlies, then finally a retirement contract. Is the Marner/Tavares peeps so different?

I'd be happier if this new AAV was under $7 million, but a $4 million savings on his current deal in an inflating cap world is not bad. Although I've also wondered if it would make sense to walk away from JT entirely and just have $11 million in open cap to operate with.

As it stands, you can think of that $4 million raise being gobbled up by this current Matthews deal and the next Marner deal.
Probably covers Mariners part.

But discounts aside, if they just let him walk, who is his replacement? Who is younger and faster but available and capable of scoring 50 points? I want that player if they can afford him but I don't know who it is? People are talking Schenn who has 3 x $6.5 left and he is coming off a 46 point year and working on a 42 point season. Change is good but who could be some actual options? Who is on the market that Calgary and Philly won't be outbidding them on?

It was a big deal to maybe change the look of the team when JT was earning $11M on a $82.5 cap but $7M on a cap going from $95.5 to $113 is not remotely the same. I am not a fan of trade proposals because they seem like a pointless NHL 24 exercise but the club need options so how do you replace him with what is there to get? What do they have that would bring in someone to fill the hole? They could have had Duchene or D Strom for a low cost but that wasn't a concern to the former regime. Who is out there now (or potentially) that moves the needle?
