He should be getting 1 year dealsWhen I see 3 x 7 for JT my first reaction is I don't like it. Sticking with the first reaction.

He's not leaving. The Leafs will give him mostly what he wants.Just listening to Chris Johnson and he mentions that he that Marner isn't looking to be the highest paid player and has no interest in leaving.

Johnston on likelihood of Marner extension prior to June 30th - Video - TSN
Bryan Hayes, Jeff O’Neill and Jamie McLennan are joined by TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston to discuss the latest on the Mitch Marner and Toronto Maple Leafs contract negotiations, could a Mikko Rantanen extension play a role in Marner’s new deal and what Marner’s priority.www.tsn.ca
It's not all about JT. Marner & Knies will eat up most of the $7M cap increase. If JT signs for $7M, that saves $4M over what he is paid now. But whatcan you get for $4M ? Now,if JT signs for $5M, I think Toronto can get a much better player with the extra $6M than with only $4M to spend. So who will be a better fit at 7 million?
Here's hoping the Leafs tell him to take his expected Selkes, Molson Cups, one goal against Skinner and 2 ENG in the last 20 games and GTFO instead. That is a 4 goal pace against garbage goalies. He's not leaving. The Leafs will give him mostly what he wants.
