I assume the Jets are doing this 11-7 business for cap reasons (using their PB guys, regardless of position) since there is no relief for guys out because of covid.

I wonder if Crazy Eyes Comrie can play forward??
Just my luck. First game in a few years I go to and no 55 or 26, no Perfetti. Probably looking at 11/7 lineup AND Comrie in net:ha: On the plus side no Beyak or Sawyer.

Question: for those who went, how was access? Lines etc?

Have gone very early for both games I've been at this year (last night and one preseason game). Not really sure why it is so slow (later on, for me zero issues but that's around 6:15) to be honest. I make sure I'm logged in for my tickets on my phone before I go. As we're walking to the arena from the car (cheap Winnipegger finding free parking here) I get my vax car/ID into my pocket. Roll up to door, go in, have vax card scanned, ID checked. Scan tickets, go through security. Honestly IMO it should add negligible time, maybe 30-60 seconds more for vax issues. But that isn't the case later on. People don't seem to care to show up prepared for the process.

Inside it felt pretty much "normal". Same kiosks for the most part. Lines are about the same as they ever were, washrooms included (boo, but whatcha gonna do?). Beer selection at north end changed to Stanley Park. Wish we'd see local breweries inside but nope.

I'll say again if you believe masks are important, you will not feel comfortable at the game. Both times I've been there it's the same - walking around prior to the game inside almost everyone has their mask up, except for people eating/drinking against the outside wall. By second intermission you're weaving between groups standing about drinking with their masks down. Seated, many are drinking/eating so masks are down. Credit to the ushers though, they're doing what they can. If you don't have anything to eat or drink they will approach and remind. Saw it a couple of times last night.

Was interesting to come home and look at the possession stats and they reflected the eye test really well. We definitely lost the Corsi but won the scoresi. Liked the Jets physical play, they seem much stronger than last season. But holy get the puck out of the D zone please Batman. That was terrifying most of the game.

My buddy and I were utterly baffled by the hat throwing. We were talking while it was happening, wondering what the hell people were doing?

Oh, and buy the big bag of popcorn in the clear bag. The little pretty bags are more, even with the discount. Mea culpa.

I arrived around 620 (so in time for the pre-game skate) and while the south west entrance was full, it only took 5 to 10 minutes to get in.
As an aside, some people still don't get it - one old guy was wearing a scarf as a mask. Security had to provide him with a mask; they seemed to be aware that this would happen for some people.

Outside of the first goal, I was not impressed with Svech overall performance yesterday. Dubois and Connor were the drivers for that line.

You start to see his limitations playing on a number one line. He caused a few hemmed in moments failing to get the puck out, or turning it over.

Seems better suited for a 3rd/4rth line role at this point in his career. I liked what I seen throughout training camp in that role

I'd give him another look if the opportunity comes up -
He has looked better in roles down the line up - but I don't think one game is enough to confirm limitations.
Considering this was a first for this line, they played well -

I do get your point on the turnovers - he fumbled a couple.
but I like what he brings along side PLD - they are similar in how they play and I can see how they would have had success in the past.

Once again Beaulieu contributed absolutely nothing. They could just as well go 11-6.
Except for having a huge hand in preventing a PP goal at a key time.

Yeah, nothing.

I get that people don't want Beaulieu playing. However, when this forum turns on someone they loathe to give that person any credit at all for anything because it might harm their argument.

Agree that this line makeup should be looked at further. I don't know if Svech will prove to be the guy, but the coach needs to be looking for things to bring out the best in DuBois as a number 2 C. This includes modifying the playstyle of the line, and specifically searching for wingers that will complemrnt the style that DuBois likes best. From early returns, it does seem that Svetch plays a highly complementary style of hockey, with possibilities of much chemistry. And of course, that Connor works really well with DuBois as well.

This is all based upon the premise that a good coach would make-up each his lines by firstly looking at what he has for the C - and then identifying wingers that are complementary ( and not visa versa).

Yes, he blocks shots. But that is the ONLY thing he is any good at. But I did overstate it a bit. He was worse in the game before.

How is this possible?
Seriously who coaches this?
No wonder every game the opposing team scores PPGs.

Yeah, this was pretty painful to watch. Three Ducks players with an uncontested path to Hellebuyck.

Is this the new scheme, the 'microscopically passive box?' Our players are right on top of one another...

That reminds me, there were a few times where we were so scrambly in our own end that we checked our own players. I remember Morrissey checking - Lowry I want to say? - on one of the pks, and I burst out laughing because it was just so ridiculous.

That's what kind of blows my mind. Why have him in the lineup at all if he's not going to penalty kill, the one area he's somewhat effective in? The only reason he got onto that penalty kill is because Stanley took the penalty. The two prior ones he didn't kill for a second. Yet Pionk was on both and left Terry all alone to tip in a goal. Pionk has been scored on at a higher rate than any other defenseman on the PK for each of the past 2 seasons. He's currently sitting at the 2nd highest rate this season, only behind his partner Dillon. This is while being the 2nd PK pairing. So not only is he being scored on with alarming regularity for 3 years running, he's often getting scored on by other teams' secondary power play unit after our first unit defends against the other teams top unit.

So again, I ask, why are we dressing Beaulieu at all when he doesn't even supplant the worst penalty killer in the league in the one area he's effective in? Also, how can the coaches continue to put Pionk on the penalty kill when it's clear that he's awful at it by every single form of measurement in addition to the eye test? You can put just about any other player there and they'd very likely be more effective.

I'd say if our clear rate was better we wouldn't be having this discussion. How many times did we get the puck on our pk and made a dumb decision or fanned on a clear? Almost comical.

Generally when I'm at games I'm not drinking domestic. It seemed like the Stanley Park stuff was up over the the previous offering, but only about $0.50 per draft so not a big surprise. It's been two years so that increase isn't out of line (for a sporting event venue). But with the contactless pay the first option up is 15% and if you tap that puppy your two draft are $27 for the premium stuff. It's a rich man's game.

With the realization now that the big bag of popcorn remains the way to go (I really should have known anyway), for me at least the discount card is really very much useless.

It was not a great game by the Jets just shows what happens when Helly keeps them in it. I hate to jump on the negatron train but they were out played and fortunately opportunistic.
The Quacks are a scrappy bunch.

The exact opposite of the game in Anaheim where the Jets outplayed the Ducks but it was the Ducks who were fortunately opportunistic.

It happens!
