Top 50 NHL-affiliated prospects, as ranked by TSN's Craig Button

Second in scoring on Michigan State with 35 points in 38 games. What do you think that roughly translates to in the OHL?
These are decent numbers but nothing worthy of being the 2nd overall pick, especially for a guy who isn't stellar defensively.

I remember you getting upset and calling out Canuck fans for Willander and Lekkerimaki getting voted so close together. lol
To be fair he calls out like every fanbase that does that, including and especially his own Habs

Second highest PPG in NCAA history among draft eligible defensemen. If you say those are just decent numbers, you're biased and there's no way around it.

Levshunov ranking aside, No Roman Kantserov?

Might be my bias but he should be rocketing up prospect rankings with his play in KHL

I see Yurov on there at #35

Just turned 21 yr old Yurov for Magnitogorsk this year

44 GP
12 G
12 A
24 pts

Very nice development and all but

Just turned 20 yr old Kantserov for Magnitogorsk this year

32 GP
12 G
15 A
27 pts

He had great numbers but for me never really passed the eye test. I thought Buium, Dickinson, Parekh were all better but had him above Silayev and Yakemchuk.

That's fair. My only point is that the numbers were better than decent, they were historical. Then you add in that he's 6'2", a high end skater, and a right shot dman, and you start to see why he got taken high. It was a great draft for defense though. Buium was my top blueliner on draft day and that hasn't changed.

I definitely understand the bet on tools with a big RHD, Montreal did the same thing the year before, and I had them ranked in similar spots. I think Levshunov's ceiling is higher but I don't think his hockey IQ is at the level of Reinbacher. My guess is they both top out as 2nd pairing dmen with Lev putting up more points and Reinbacher being better defensively

Yurov still has some equity from last year, I'm guessing.

As a longtime Levshunov doubter, I have to say that this is the best Button list I've ever seen. Great work Craig!

Where’s Lindstrom ?

I'm curious if Del Bel Belluz didn't make the cut or if he wasn't eligible because of his temporary call-up. I would assume Mateychuk isn't on there because of the call-up.

With Lindstrom it seems his value is very up in the air and folks don't know how to evaluate it - they seem to either rank him as if he isn't injured or not rank him at all, as if he's not still a prospect (he is).

Del Bel Belluz does not belong in the top 50.

Thing is, he calls out others for casting votes on their own team's prospects. Then he admits to voting for a Hab prospect. I call him out on it, and he private messages me, cursing and throwing insults and images of a guy flipping me the bird.

So if we are going to talk about being fair, he is literally guilty of doing exactly what he so rudely accuses others of, and %100 deserves to be called out for it.

He very well could have for sure, I can’t recall that far back to be honest. I do recall the hype around him for sure, but was he ranked number one? I have a bad case of CRS. Lol
I bet we could find the hockey news cover that had him as the best player outside of the nhl

I don’t understand how Cole Eiserman isn’t a top50 prospect? Seems ridiculous

He was just a PPG for Gold Winning Team USA at the world Juniors tournament amongst his peers while being one of the youngest players in the tournament.

He’s also leading all freshman in Goals in the NCAA.
Feel like he's a similar prospect to Lekkerimaki. I guess Lekkerimaki gets credit for having done it in the SHL and AHL, but they both just score goals wherever they go. Either it translates to the nhl and they're top 6 wingers, or it doesn't and they're minor leaguers.

I love how same guys are saying....

Leonard, Perreault...look amazing, stock rising! (for drafted player lists)...

James Hagens....has been bad, falling (for 2025 lists)

(they would make horrible lawyers)

Eiserman is a great prospect and NYI did well to get him when they did but I think people underrate how few guys a top 50 list is.

Less than two drafted prospects per team. Even if you're just looking at ~the last 3 year drafts. That's probably 70ish guys alone that were first rounders and not in the league yet, add in the later round picks that have popped and it's fairly easy for a guy like Eiserman to fall out

Context is everything. Leonard and Perreault weren't #1OA picks, they weren't close to being #1OA picks, nobody argued they should be. Hagens is being judged and argued about in the context of who should be the #1OA pick this year.

So maybe the 1994 editions? Something like that? I use to have tons of the Hockey News mags but they eventually found their way into the recycling bin after I got married. Lol
Now I’m second guessing myself
I looked quickly at the 94-95 and 95-96 thn yearbooks and couldn’t see anything

But when you look at koivus last season before the nhl (74pts in 45 games with tps turku) leading liiga by almost 20 points

I do remember seeing somewhere as being heralded as the best player outside of the nhl. May not be able to find it now unfortunately
