Around the League Thread | New Year, New Me

I feel like we all saw that coming too. Glad this management team is competent because that screams Jimbo special

I mean they did trade a 1st round pick for him...

He had a decent playoffs but it was a pro scouting failure. Sean Monahan went for the same price and would be solving a lot of problems for this team right now at the same cap hit as DeBrusk.

We also shouldn’t be poking fun at overpaid centres names Elias…

Avs are brutal man. Makar has the 2nd best player on the planet tied to his hip and still can’t take the game over like Hughes.
You must be watching a different Makar than the rest of us then.

How have they punted it? They're in a playoff position and will likely make a significant move to bolster the top 6 before the deadline.

With our newly constructed d core + Demko seemingly looking like he's back, who knows what can happen.
There is also no favorable path to the finals in the West this year that's just dreaming.

Having Hughes gives them a chance against any team in the league.

When they’re playing at their best they match up well against most of the teams in the league. They just outplayed the Avs and the Leafs this week by a fairly significant margin analytically.

I told you 2 weeks ago that Calgary does not have the talent to keep up and Wolf playing great has sabotaged their rebuild. They will finish 9-10 and achieve nothing.
Awesome

We did all see that coming but management offered him 7x7. Luckily for us he turned it down .
Well his role here would’ve been completely different. Matchup center to provide secondary offense. I think everyone would’ve expected his numbers to dip if he stayed with us.

If he decided to re-sign with us. Monahan went to Columbus for a good reason (RIP Johnny and Matt)

That's great but the season has highs and lows and looking at how the game is played in the playoffs other teams are just built better in the West IMO.

I'm not sure what the heck we'd be doing if we had Lindholm and Zadorov on those Boston contracts, which we offered them.

Well we probably wouldn't have traded for M-Petey since Zadorov would likely be 2nd pairing minutes. We may not have DeBrusk?

100% no Debrusk, probably will still sign Sherwood because he’s then only one we can afford. Also no Forbort and Desharnais.

I think we would have still signed Desharnais or Forbort (if no Desharnais). The original plan was to bring everybody back including Cole at ~$1.5M. If management really liked Desharnais (and it appears that they did) it makes sense to sign him over Forbort who is more of a stop gap and a LHD. Had Zadorov signed, the glaring weakness would have been on the right side (even more so than what we started the season with). I would like to believe that there's no way we're pencilling in Juulsen as the #6.

Loui Eriksson officially retires

Congrats to Loui. A great career as a Star, decent career as a Bruin, and terrible career as a Canuck + whatever he did in Arizona. That 2016 UFA class has to be among the worst in history.

I am not sure we would have enough cap

Lindholm = Debrusk + Forbort
Zadorov = Desharnais + Heinen + 1M

A massive component of the Lindholm deal was dumping Kuzmenko. He was also an insurance policy if they couldn't get Pettersson extended.
