I see him as someone they would be more than happy to give a multi year deal at under 1.5M. He would probably like some job security for his young family too
I think it really depends on how the deals with our top guys go. Gudbranson might have to wait to get a deal which is risky. Wouldn't be shocked if someone snags him before we can. That said, if Johnny's deal gets done before FA, maybe

capspace problemz and cant keep both. Sandin needs ice time

I do see the cap issues but you're better off trying to trade Mrazek and Kerfoot to free up cap space and use Sandin to do it (if you have to). You don't need Sandin with Rielly locked up IMO. You need guys that can be physical forces in your own end and I would not trade Muzzin and I would sign Giordano if he wanted to come back for a cheap AAV.

Sandin can and will be pushed around in his own end. It's the sad reality at this stage. You can't afford to have the front of the net exposed like that.

I fear the Sandin defensive posts that will be made but if the Leafs are going to make noise, you got to get stronger on the back end. Rielly as the offensive type is enough. You don't need more offense, you need your D to limit the other team from scoring and Muzzin helps with that.

Unfortunately, Lindgren, due to NYR upcoming cap -- super vicegrip tight until we can move Trouba [replace w/elc Schneider] and the following yr I think [or is it yr after] Panarin's 11+ comes off the books.

NY needs 11-ish m to pay for Zib + Fox raises.
This achieved by moving Geo, Nemeth, Strome, Hajek + recover 1.5 Hank buyout

Howev, we then need stopgap bridge under 3m @ for LaF + Kakko.
Now adding to that, we are gonna need $ for Copp + Vatrano
Very few on NYR do not have some level of trade restriction, so it will be very tough, esp since we need to keep guys like Chytil to rejuvenate/replace Strome..

We can pinch and not sign McKegg/Hunt types, but it is not looking good at this pt.

Nemeth is more of a third pair, though he has played above that. He looked like crap coming back early from covid, ok now. Value is about a 4th, take him 2.5 x 2 for a conditional 7th.

Lindgren will be market price, we want picks to max our cap situation, and I am guessing a late first for a guy 2 more years at 3 per who plays 1LD fit w/Norris trophy caliber RD partner, who is sound def and clears the crease, is reasonable min bid.

We have Nils L who we should keep b'c he has best shot of any Ranger D, righty who plays either side, can make Jones -- lefty who plays either side -- available. Good pick offer can land Fox lite potential.

elc Robertson is unavailable, would go to 3LD to start while KAM bumps up, prob to Lindgren's slot

make an offer

Ducks shouldn't pay major assets/overpay in trade unless it's for someone that fits the age range. Guds would be a good add, could possibly be had for relatively short term and overpaying by a little in cash (cap won't be a problem the next few years). It adds toughness and someone that has played with the Ducks before. Outside of that, if teams are trying to dump useful but overpaid guys that come off the books in a year, look at them if it comes with an asset/pick. Ideally, Drysdale doesn't play top pair next year, either with someone good on the second pair or running the 3rd pair (would require moving Shattenkirk).

You literally just called Damon Severson a top 4 shut down defenseman and you’re saying my opinion is invalid LOL. Severson has NEVER been known for his defensive game. Guy is pure trash defensively
So the guy whos played over 2 minutes a game on PK for the last like 7 years is not a defensive defenseman? He's not good offensively so what is he good at then?

Maybe, he's having a career year and has a young family. He's played for 6 different teams over the last 4 years. I think he would be willing to take a cheap multi year deal where he is appreciated to not have to upriot his family again

LMAO someone doesn’t watch him at all. Guy has a highlight reel of meme worthy defensive lapses this season. He’s below average defensively
No he isn’t. I’ve watched almost all of his games, not highlights of his worst moments.

He’s solid offensively, mostly solid defensively with the occasional catastrophic blunder, and very very good in transition. He’s playing huge minutes this year and would look better as more of a number 3 or 4.

He's scoring well above expected this year and mostly due to his PP time. I agree he is best in a 2nd pair role as a defensive guy though

He is only getting PP1 time because Hamilton’s season has been totally wrecked by multiple injuries.

The best fit was when he was with Siegenthaler, the best pure defensive dman he’s every really played with. He has had mostly garbage next to him his whole career.

You definitely want a more defensive guy next to him, his real value is as a puck mover in transition. But keep in mind he will make his gaffes that make you shake your head.

Scott Mayfield could be available for the right type of return (quality scoring help that isn’t a cap albatross). It would probably take an overpayment though based on the fact Lou plays hardball.
Is there anything Edmonton could add to Barrie to offset the contract differences?

I really think Mayfield would be an excellent addition to our blueline. I also don't consider Barrie to be a capdump and negative asset the way a lot of this forum does. I really like him on the team but think we should try to find a way to swap him for a defensive minded guy hence my interest. He definitely adds offense from the blueline. Even from an overpayment stance, humour me.

The Isles have zero use for Barrie so better to shop him elsewhere.

Not sure Lou/Trotz want to do about Mayfield, but he would likely be traded to upgrade at forward or a LHD.

So like I said earlier. Very similar to Brodie

One of the top 125 defensive Dmen in the league is sure to be available. i would name a few, but usually the names are shot down as "not being good enough", and then you realize the OP really wants a top 25 Defensive D.

TJ Brodie has had many of those highlight reels and is well known for his strong defensive game. I think im gonna stick with the numbers here over the opinion from the guy who literally hates the Devils

Brodie has never had a strong defensive game. What he has is a borderline elite transition game.

But he sucks in front of the net and can't win a board battle. That's pretty much why Calgary swapped him for Tanev. They didn't trust him in the last couple minutes of the game in the playoffs and f***ing Forbort was played instead, ending up screwing the pooch.
