He has Couture as a HM so around a top 40ish center and that seems to fit what he is right now.

Only on pace for only 61 pts with the best team in the league as the 1C. I understand hes a top 2-way forward, and that has value, but hes lost a step in his game.

Pavelski had 81 pts last season and is on pace for 74 this season. Decent 2 way game, had over 100 hits last season, top faceoff man. I dont know why you think Berg is THAT much better.
Because it's Patrice Bergeron being talked about here and yes he is still that good.

if Pettersson didnt have a down year last season, Id maybe agree. Jack Hughes has only got better every year, and is already elite in his 3rd season. Not saying EP isnt this season, but Im giving the JH the advantage here.
I'm a huge EP40 fan but I think that Jack Hughes is better right now.
Horvat having a career year in his contract year isnt proof enough (much like Kadri). Hes a career 55 point player. If he does it again next season, then sure.
Horvat is such a hard guy to evaluate.

21-22 through this season he is 6th in goals among centers but 32 in points.

Bo is great in the faceoff circle but not really a top end 2 way player.

I'd also rather Kadri right now for a playoff run.

Difficult list to make but this is what I came up with.
  1. Connor McDavid
  2. Nathan MacKinnon
  3. Leon Draisaitl
  4. Auston Matthews
  5. Tage Thompson
  6. Sidney Crosby
  7. Jack Hughes
  8. Elias Pettersson
  9. Brayden Point
  10. Aleksander Barkov
  11. Steven Stamkos
  12. John Tavares
  13. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
  14. Bo Horvat
  15. Mika Zibanejad
  16. Sebastian Aho
  17. Mark Scheifele
  18. Pierre-Luc Dubois
  19. Roope Hintz
  20. Nico Hischier
  21. Tim Stutzle
  22. Evgeni Malkin
  23. Dylan Larkin
  24. Elias Lindholm
  25. J.T. Miller
  26. Patrice Bergeron
  27. Mathew Barzal
  28. Anze Kopitar
  29. Dylan Cozens
  30. Brock Nelson
This is the first list to include Dubois. I think after next season he’ll be solidly in this list. Many won’t want to jump on a career year but he has such a unique skill set. Not many C’s can physically dominate like him, score at a high rate and draw penalties like the best of them. It’s a fairly subjective topic and really there are probably 30+ guys that could be in the 15 to 30 range. Just depends on your exposure to those players.

Do people realize that Draisaitl has spent almost half of his season on McDavid's wing (again)? Or that when he's actually centered his own line they've been considerably outplayed 5v5?

I know he gets a ton of points but can a guy really be a top 3 (or even top 5) center when he doesn't play the position half the time and isn't even winning his matchups while playing behind the best player in the league?

Is it true he’s playing center half the time? NHL has him as a C (I know, not always reliable) and he is top 10 in even strength points among centers.

According to natural stattrick, Draisaitl plays about 48% of his ES minutes with McDavid. His xGF%, GF%, SCF%, HDCF%, etc. are all <50% without McDavid and >50% with. So he's not stapled to McDavid, but I absolutely think it's fair to say that he benefits quite a bit from playing with the best hockey player in the world.

Per Naturalstattrick he's spent about 45% of his 5v5 icetime with McDavid this year.

I consider that 45% of his icetime spent playing wing, he might take some faceoffs and what not but when both are on the ice I think McDavid is the defacto center.
