Yeah, he has a certain amount of it. Any kind of uniqueness helps. Tikkanen had some uniqueness, and was an elite player.

Well, about six months ago, I came across an obscure YT channel that had like four over an hour long VHS-ripped vids that compiled Jagr's best goals, dekes, passes. All the way from his early Pens days to I don't know when as I never made it past the second vid before the stuff was removed.

Given the usual top ten highlight reel of Jagr's, it was a revelation full of strange stuff like the moment against San Jose where he stood still in the offensive zone and had four guys in a row coming from the side. He barely moved, intuitivelly deked one after another and then casually passed to abandoned Francis who missed.

I remembered him much worse and more one dimensional. So the man is a bit of a myth too.

From all accounts he had an amazing work ethic too. Yet he had a reputation for being non-chalant.

Pavel Datsyuk becomes more mythical with each passing year.

I love Datysuk and think he was phenomenal and one of the best choices of players if you could clone 5 of them and play any other players 5 clones.

That all said, he is talked about like he's Wayne Gretzky mixed with Patrice Bergeron. His flashy dekes and take away ability look good on a highlight reel but let's not forget he was at his peak probably in the range of 10-15th best player in the league and really only had a 4 notable seasons.

He was also largely outshone by Zetterberg in the playoffs and Z was typically given the top shut down matchups.
