Predictable response from a nucks fan. You guys can’t help get off to the Hughes vs Makar debate.

I’d still take Fox over Hughes. Rangers are having their issues obv, but that’s not enough to discount what Fox has been for 4 years now. Hughes offense has greatly improved but comes at the expense of him playing actual defense. Analytics prove he receives sheltered o zone starts where Fox and Makar have upped their D zone starts in recent years.
Tell me you don't watch the games without saying it

dis guy who is randomly on the team i cheer for is better than the guy on your team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s right. You might have heard of him…. He’s done nothing but tear up the league since he’s entered it and no one can touch him. Josh Manson is so far above all other defencemen it’s laughable others even try to compare their guys to him. Clear homerism.

Based on the video evidence, Hughes is above any Norris votes, he should be considered for the Hart.

Like Heiskanen, it is a pathetic amount of points for how good of a team he’s on, so yes, not even close to the current top 10 list.
Forsling is never on the ice for a powerplay, unless it’s with like 3 seconds remaining. So he can’t get as much time to rack up a bunch of PP points like Shane Theodore

Forsling is a great defensemen. I think he’s around #10 in the league but that’s me. Saying he’s not even close to top 10 means points matter way more for defenseman than you know, playing defense.

Ask Oilers fans how much they love Evan Bouchard and his cripplingly inconsistent play on defense. But boy can he get the puck to McDavid

The post you're quoting is doing the direct opposite of pitting Hughes and Makar against each other.

Looking at these lists…I really believe it’s time to change how the defenseman position is thought about. Like how not all soccer forwards are strikers. Or the revolution of basketball positions.

Like, how can anybody reasonable compare Evan Bouchard, Erik Karlsson, Gustav Forsling, and Jaccob Slavin? No reasonable, intelligent hockey fan can say that these guys are apples to apples players.

I can’t believe people have Hughes 1. How can you be the best “defenseman” in the NHL yet your defensive qualities aren’t good enough to kill penalties for your team. Same thing when the Canucks are defending leads late in the game. He legit doesnt play.

Among Canucks defenseman, Hughes is behind Soucy, Myers, Hronek and Juulsen on the TOI depth chart time played defending against a team with the goalie pulled.

7 Canucks defenseman have played more PK minutes than Hughes this year.

He’s beyond talented. He deserves plenty of accolades. But he isn’t the best defenseman in the NHL lol. It’s beyond laughable for anyone to say he is. Perhaps he’s the best defenseman in the NHL when factoring in his retrieval game, transition game and things he does with the puck on his stick. But thats not the topic at hand.

You cannot be the best defenseman in the NHL when you’re option 6 out of the gate for your own team when it comes to defensive situations.

As a die hard Rangers fan who lives in Vancouver....give me Hughes any day of the week over Fox.

And what's predictable about saying Hughes (the most recent Norris winner) and Makar (who is widely considered the closest thing in the NHL to a generational talent) are the top two in the league? This has been stated ad naseum around here and in media outlets for a while now. Is it predictable because its the correct answer?

Except that you can when everything else you do is done at such a high level it outweighs the negative.
