Tony Marinaro on why Subban was really traded

Not saying it automatically invalidates this narrative but:

Late/Missed meetings.
Late/Missed practice.
Broke curfew.
Thinks he's bigger than the team.
Won a Norris and is one of the biggest stars in the league.
Trade him

Walked out on his contract, throws tantrums, hits his coach.
Sign him

Not saying there wasn't a rift in the locker room. Not saying it all can't be true. Just kinda funny they traded PK, supposedly, for not being a good teammate and then signed Radulov the next day. Guy just screams great teammate.

They're giving him a one year audition.

They gave pk a 5+ year audition.

And PK won a Norris, cemented himself as one of the top D in the entire league, honored his contract, gave back to the community, etc.

Again, not saying it isn't true. But considering Radulov MAY be a solid 50-60 point winger while Subban is a legitimate superstar, I'd gladly put up with 15 years of the kind of "bad teammate" PK supposedly is than take a gamble on a guy with Radulov's history.

They traded pk for Shea Weber,a perennial Norris candidate. Not for radulov.

What?? No way. Thank you. For clearing that up. Thank you. Phew.

I.Was.So.Confused.

The point is they traded a guy who is more valuable than either Weber or Radulov and the popular justification is the rumor and innuendo of him being a bad teammate. They then turned around and signed a guy whose nickname could literally be "Mr. Bad Teammate" thus contradicting the theory that they value this whole team first, don't rock the boat, don't have an ego culture that PK didn't fit into.

You can defend and rationalize all you want but those are the optics to a non Habs fan.

Your opinion that pk is more valuable. 9 mil for him, enjoy it Nashville.

I bet Pablo would've made a great hockey player for the habs. definitely would've played the white oops, right way.

He's about the right height and he's got that obnoxious bad English accent so he'd probably get some pp time. Sign the beast!

There is no making sense of Bergy.

Whole lot of ********
Bohooooo he didnt attend the christmas party! Booohooooo he was in town while injured (while we all know max pacioretty was at the movies after getting hit by chara)
Booohooooo he doesnt support Therrien who the **** cares since when is the coach more important?
And the players on the team most of them SUCK how would they dare asking their best player to get traded

Anthony Stewart was in the room and he really didnt see it like Tony so if you are not naming any names I trust Anthony Stewart over some BS coming out of a journalist mouth

Subban has fought multiple teammates in practice on multiple occasions. That alone is enough evidence that he is a problem in the dressing room. Not even debatable, 100% slam dunk case.

Then on top of that you have him getting into a yelling match with the captain of his team in the middle of a playoff game after staring him down - while Pacioretty was trying to play hockey no less.

Then on top of that you have a plethora of news reports of him having issues with his teammates.

Then on top of that you have the incident where his coach point-blank called him out for a mistake that could have happened to anyone. That almost never happens. Oh you want to call Therrien a bad coach (which he is)? Name me another time he just flat out sold out one of the best players on his team to the media. He's had a long tenure as a pro-coach, so surely he's done this before?

Then you couple all of this with his on-ice behaviour and his "larger-than-life" personality and honestly I can't even believe it's a conversation.

He is unequivocally a problem in the dressing room.

If you ever played hockey before you would know it happens to fight with others during practice
Do you LOVEEEEE all your coworkers? You clearly never played hockey

Second paragraph "while pacioretty was trying to play hockey" lolexcuse me tell me again which habs player was the best player last season and gives his heart on the ice while the captain is no where to be seen? He has every right to get mad at his teammates for giving up on the season

Then about Therrien, if you followed him with the Pens and were close to the team you would know hes a terrible person and almost destroyed MAF career so dont act like its something knew when you know nothing about the man

All the other stuff you talk about is some BS with no meaning in pro sports "people say he has a larger than life personality" so what you gonna do with Ovi on your team, trade him?

Thank you for not spitting nonsense next time

Alex Galchenyuk: I was having dinner with my father and we were talking about hockey in general and he told me Subby was traded. I said “what?!†I was in shock. I went on Twitter to check and the first thing that came to mind was not related to hockey, but how I had just lost one of my best friends on the team. He was like a big brother to me.

they traded weise eller dsp prust (all big friends of Pk) so be careful what you say galchenyuk or they going to send you to edmonton

looks like the typical bashing the player who leaves town stuff that happens to justify trades when you are the clear loser. PR work.

Simple, Marc Bergevin made a choice:

Just Galchenyuk, Beaulieu and Gallagher left from the "Subban clique". They love what Gallagher brings to the table, so he's safest.

Oh, that ***** donated his 2 annual salaries to charity just to make him look good.
Okay. Please tell me who of you donated even 2 months and not 2 years salaries to any cause in your life.

That is not even remotely comparable. Subban is a millionaire many times over and could live quite comfortably even if he donated 90% of his current contract. Rich people can make donations like that without it affecting their lifestyle because they have more than enough but a regular joe making say $50,000 would be greatly affected by donation nearly 1/5 of their income when they have far less to make do with.

The big money has all been paid by Nashville.

Based on what? Signing bonuses in Weber's contract are annual and to be paid out before the season begins. NSH isn't going to pay 68mil in signing bonuses in one lump sum, so you still have 2 more years of signing bonuses, pushing Weber at 12mil actual dollars before it starts plummeting. As far as I remember, signing bonuses are to be paid out by the team in July 1st (subject to change depending on what the contract states). As long as Weber was a Canadien before July 1st, Molson is paying his bonuses.

Problem is PKs teammates didn't want to and MB can't trade the whole team. The players spoke up. They didn't at all vote for him for captain. They didn't attend his hospital PC. They didn't vote for the Clancy award when he gave 10 million. It became clear after this disaster season that his teammates didn't want him around. The players made their choice and got what they want. It's put up or shut up time .
