Just a fact, not an opinion.

Anyway, reality is tda was not in the rangers long term plans once Fox forced his way to NYR. If Fox never forces his way to NYR, tony would probably be putting up 60-70 point seasons running the powerplay and likely making $6-7mm/yr on a long term deal.

Once fox forced his way to nyr tda immediately became expendable and the politics stuff was just an easy excuse to get rid of him. You werent gonna have fox and trouba making $9.5 and $8 and then tda on your bottom pair near $5 when his single greatest asset wasnt gonna be utilized with fox running the pp. tda remains one of the best power play qb’s in the sport
To be fair, it's not a fact at all.

Do you know what role Ekblad fills on the Panthers? Certainly not PP specialist
If I want a bottom pairing PP specialist I'd be shooting for Barrie or Boqvist and not have to deal with the shit storm that is Tony D
Right but ekblad does run point on the pp there. Hes for sure a better all around dman.

Anyway, there is no shit storm with tda. Alot of people who post on here dont know guys in the league. Hes a great locker room guy a universally well liked by all his teammates except for georgiev who was the guy the entire rangers locker room hated

Sounds like you fit in this category too...

Also no Ekblad doesn't, he was their third option on D... They probably do want to find someone to run the PP, but it's not Ekblad he's replacing

He was the inaugural member of the ‘bought out twice’ club. Now that he’s no longer its only member (congratulations are due for welcoming Ryan Suter to its ranks) is it time for some team to sign him, regret it, and have him found the ‘bought out thrice’ club?

DeAngelo is still the type of guy to put his own emotions over his team's success. The only time I saw him standout in the playoffs was for taking a really dumb penalty after losing his cool. Plus, he's an offensive defenceman who isn't putting up much offence. That's combo that generally leads to guys losing their jobs.

He had 53 points in 68 games his 2019-2020 season which is a 64 point pace over 82 fyi.

And lets be real here, being the point of a pp consisting of panarin, trocheck, zibanejad and kreider aint hard to post 60 points.

He's actually never topped 20 PP points in a season--ES has been more of a driver. With the exception of one year super-insulated by Slavin, though? most of his productive seasons have been on awful teams where he could skate 19-20 minutes a night. Which is not really what you want unless you have a Slavin to staple him to.

Yeah, ita unfortunate but its the truth that hes being more or less blackballed for his personal political views that 90+% of the league shares.

And you nailed it. Georgiev was by far the most hates guy in that room and even remains so today

Would be a great fit. Bottom pair dman who limits his 5v5 time and then runs an elite point on the pp
Strange that one of these players has remained on the same team since then and the other has been bought out and bounced around the league if he's hated in the locker room so much. I guess Goalies are less impactful in the room though.

Hahahahaha. You're not telling me anything.

Elliotte Friedman, everybody!
Friedman has said the same on record fyi

Exactly 1/2 depending on how you look at it. DeAngelo has been on 2 teams and likely a 3rd since then though, And Georgiev was traded, not bought out....so pretty different situations.

Anyways do you happen to have a link to where Friedman has said this? I don't recall him ever saying that DeAngelo was a great locker room guy or that he was universally loved by almost everyone on the Rangers, or that a lot of guys in the league like him. Would love to be proven wrong and see a source from Friedman though.

Florida could be an option. Defensive structure team that would allow him to rove in the same manner that Montour did. And will not command the salary that Montour got from Seattle.

Boston is another place that might make sense.

His problem is he's very bad defensively... honestly I think if he could convert to a winger he'd probably find some success because he's great as a PPQB. You just don't want him as a defender most of the rest of the game.

Bingo. The league just doesn’t care much for offense only D. Carolina was Gostisbehere’s only offer after a 56 point season. Gustafsson is on to his 8th team over the last 5 years. Nashville never found a taker for Barrie and he’s unsigned right now as well.

This is a goofy thread.

1. The "politics" that caused him problems early in his career were making racist comments.

2. That did not stop him from getting multiple NHL jobs and being an alright offensive defenseman. He can score, but he's not scoring 60-70 points on any planet.

3. He's one of the dumbest players in the NHL when it comes to actually playing defense. The way he loses players and misses reads in his own end, I'm convinced he can't count to 5.

4. He just seems like a weird dude that wears out his welcome. Georgiev punched him and he's the one who got the boot for that incident, which should tell you something. I am also like 95% sure he is the guy behind that strange "nyrfan" Twitter burner.

He'll get his shot somewhere for cheap, most likely. He hasn't done anything egregiously offensive in public lately and he provides a little pop offensively. But these are the reasons he is where he is now.
What comments? Anything specific you can share?

The Flyers thought Angelo was so bad defensively and so bad for the locker room that they healthy scratched him for games where they only had 5 other healthy dmen, and then bought him out after one year.
Anything to back up he was bad for the locker room? Prior reports all said otherwise he was well liked.
