Value of: Tony DeAngelo UFA

Has played really well for the isles while playing in all situations. What do we think he fetches as a UFA?
He seems to have found a home with that club. He will go for the biggest contract offered but (if he was smart; which he’s proven not to be) he’d stay on the Island.

TDA is a ball buster. I think we all know guys like that. Some take it too far or don't give it a rest. They often need to get punched in the mouth, but overall, they are harmless.

There were quite a few NYR's that spoke highly of TDA, but his antics do have an adverse effect in the room.

He needs to shut his trap

In his case it makes sense to stay where you are if you have found a good home.
Agreed. But when has this player made sense with his decisions? He should certainly stay on the island but will instead go to where he gets offered the biggest contract. And that means some team that offers him a second year.

I think he goes back to the Islanders on a moderate deal.

Given his history, why mess with something that was worked so far?

I would simply not offer him a contract. But i guess if you're the Isles and he's found a bit of a temporary fit and hasn't managed to do something stupid or sour the organization or the locker room, coach, or organization in general on him...maybe you offer him about $3.50 or whatever spare change you can find in Lou's couch. For one year term max.

Because given his history, he has a tendency to mess with something that has worked so far. And further to that...the "worked so far" part of things is a factor. He seems to have a strong tendency to spoil things with time. So maybe he'd be better off just bouncing before it does inevitably go sour yet again. :dunno:

Seems like the guy Edmonton will try and get if they move off Bouchard. I don’t think they will but, it makes sense to me lol

Sometimes people like that mellow, sometimes they don't. I have no knowledge of what he's been like as a person, and I didn't see nearly as much of him on the Flyers or Carolina, but his decision making and hot-headedness issues that he showed on the ice when he was with the Rangers definitely have NOT been an issue in his time with NYI so far. Defensively, he loses battles, and doesn't box out well, but that's a known limitation that's not going to change. Offensively, it's not only that he's instinctive, but he motivates his teammates to make good cuts, because he rewards them with good passes.

For me there are two related questions: How consistently can he maintain the focus on the ice as he's shown with NYI so far? Can he maintain that focus, or find his way back to it when it is disrupted, when he deals with some personal adversity or or off the ice?
