Charlie said the deal is contingent on what happens with Karlsson. If Carolina gets Karlsson then obviously the DeAngelo deal is dead. He said if the DeAngelo deal falls through the Flyers are f***ed because they’ve put themselves in a position where DeAngelo can’t come back.
I still can't believe dodo heads are trying to tell us that Carolina is taking DeAngelo whether they get EK65 or not.

Very embarrassing this news of this non-trade leaked & now everyone knows TDA can't stay.

Damn, now Danny B is gonna hafta trade for Karlsson just so the Canes have to take Tony.

(the right answer was always a buyout. this is dumb.)

To review, 12+ MM in cap hits of players couldn’t come back under any circumstances and they couldn’t interview at least one GM candidate because of an NHL coach.

Yeah he said with Sanheim at least the Flyers in their eyes we’re getting value for him with the first round pick & Krug (they didn’t see Krug as a pure contract dump even it was necessary to facilitate the deal). So you could/can welcome him back & try to mend that with that logic.

But obviously with DeAngelo you’ve made it abundantly clear you’re trying to jettison him out the organization.

Think Hayes was the other, not Sanheim.

No I’m saying that’s why they were able to take Sanheim back after the St. Louis deal with him involved fell through.

He was framing it as why they feel/felt they could take Sanheim back after his trade fell through compared to the situation they’re in with DeAngelo. He was saying he doesn’t think there’s anyway DeAngelo can come back at this point.

Sorry, sometimes my reading comprehension isn't so great this early in the morning.

Punishing players for not attending optional skates is horseshit behavior. Not a shock though, Tortorella is a horseshit person.
That hypocrite doesn't even attend all his mandatory games he is supposed to coach, but is going to punish TDA for missing an optional skate?

Get this dinosaur blowhard coach as far away from this team right now.

Did Tulsky get hired this offseason?

Torts gave up on TDA, not because of missing a practice, but because he was uncoachable, they spent all season working with him to improve his defensive awareness to no avail. Shaw was able to reach Risto, Lavi was able to turn around Gustafsson, but TDA was as bad at the end of the season as the beginning. Missing the practice merely reinforced that TDA was not interested in changing and putting the work in to get better.

The difference in Carolina is Slavin and their ability to shelter TDA on the 3rd pair, the fact they wanted to pay TDA $2.5M instead of Ghost $4M . . . basically says they saw Ghost as a similar player in a similar role, and thought he was overpriced for that role.

Charlie's reporting was that Tulsky didn't even get an interview because they thought Tortorella would run right over him.

I'm so sorry to have to tell you this.
He prevented many more than just that one given all of the reports of the many candidates who refused to interview because it was conditioned on keeping Torts. So his mere presence alone probably eliminated tons of candidates.

As if he's not attempting to do this with Danny B right now...They are such a joke.

Both Charlie & ASF have said that having to inherit Tortorella in that power structure would have been a major turn off to most GM candidates around the league. It was in the President search with that added caveat with having to inherit Briere as GM on top of it.

What possible relevance does that have on whether he should have been considered for the Flyers job or whether a coach should be a hindrance to a GM hire?

5 jobs flipped this offseason. The Flames hired their AGM since 2014. The Predators went for the franchise relevance option in Trotz. The Leafs and Penguins went with retreads. And then there's the Flyers, who made their GM hire out of the ECHL in March and went through a sham process.

How many out of those 5 do we think have competent top-down leadership? Pittsburgh and?

*Edit* The Penguins are not the Flames.

Pesce and Slavin are UFAs after this season and want to get paid. Carolina might move them soon if they can’t come to an agreement on an extension. The Canes are also a bit light on the RH side of their defense. Right now Burns is their best righty. At his age anything is possible. TDA would be a patch for them.

Tortorella gave up on the entire team.

Tortorella also wasn't coaching players in any direct, individual way. He told us he wouldn't when he got here; he was pretty proud of it, and he blamed the players for his own laziness. Players have confirmed that's how he worked. It doesn't matter how coachable or uncoachable the players are when the coach isn't bothering to do his job.

TDA didn't "miss" the practice, it was optional.

TDA will no longer be a Flyer by tomorrow.

If Carolina, ( which I wouldn't put past their POS Owner who calls all the shots ), backed out of the trade with Flyers retaining 2.5 million or 50% of contract and supposedly get a prospect in return, only to have Flyers buyout TDA and Carolina sign him for any amount is just wrong.

Probably will happen though

Wrong? POS? Sounds incredibly smart to me. The Flyers have horribly mismanaged this situation from the second they decided to overspend for him, they've never gotten smarter. They deserve to be prey. It is the situation this team has built and refuses to change.

Super glad this team traded 3 draft picks for an uncoachable player, and is going to retain on his contract just to get rid of him.

Both the GM and president hires were severely limited because the team refused to entertain hiring anyone who wouldn't guarantee to keep Torts. The whole process is incredibly ass backwards.

The question in my mind is that the deal would logically seem to have been submitted to the NHL or else they wouldn't have delayed it. But it is still submitted with the agreement of both teams. Can a team walk away from a pending trade because they got a better option? I suppose I am being too Pollyanna in thinking that this agreement would be binding on both parties unless the league cancelled it or if both franchises agreed to terminate it.

The league isn’t involved until there’s a trade call. They may have tried to do one and were told the deal was illegal, but then that means the trade wasn’t delayed. It ceased to exist. Nothing is pending.

Commenting on it publicly was frankly weird because by rule it cannot exist. The only thing you can do is a handshake agreement to revisit it on X date.
