Kuznetsov. Did he also play defense? Physically punish, well literally anyone?

Adding Marner and Subtracting Orlov AND Wilson removes a tremendously significant quota of the Capitals current physicality.

If you want to win the Regular Season, sure trade for Marner (you’ll still likely lose the Regular Season because star players will have even less space on the ice and the team will have been effectively neutered).

If you want to win in the POs I can’t think of a more backward move than what your suggesting.
if caps were competing for a playoff spot we wouldn't be talking about trading Wilson and Orlov.

You are missing the point entirely. Orlov may be gone after this year and Wilson is up next year.

I’m one of the few Capitals fans who thinks trading Wilson could be a good idea, but I don’t think Toronto is a good match because I think Washington needs a stud almost-NHL-ready center or defensive prospect in return. I don’t think Toronto has either.

If any team is a match I think it would be New Jersey. Would they give up Nemec for two years of Wilson? Their D is looking good this year but could use a power forward to help put them over the edge. That’d be the type of return I’d like to see with Wilson if he were traded this year.

I'd take a 2023 lottery draft pick + young prospect for Wilson. Not much point in resigning him given the upcoming suckage for the Caps.

Umm. Is a Leafs fan really complaining about lack of playoff success for the Caps? It's a very similar situation for the Leafs, except you guys haven't won a cup since before the Caps were even a team.
No, a Leaf fan was saying that Caps fans shouldn't be saying nothing to Leaf fans about their playoff struggles considering it took 13 years into the Ovi era for y'all to even go past the 2nd round. Leafs are currently in year 7 of the Matthews era.

Leafs winning cups before the Caps were even a team is common knowledge, those games being played is what led to your charity franchise even coming into existence. This is like Raptors fans mocking all the rings the Celtics won before they were a team.

Well I see this thread has really devolved. Charity franchise? Oye.

If we trade for him, can we ask him to fight every fan in New Jersey next time we're there? We need a fan enforcer.

Don’t worry. Based on the things that have been offered in this thread, make no mistake, you aren’t trading for Tom Wilson.

Realistically, the Leafs don’t have the available assets that the Caps would be looking for in a trade for Wilson. At this point it’s far more likely the Devils can make a good trade offer for Wilson than the Leafs.

What would your ask be from the Devils?

2023 1st + the best prospect they’re willing to offer + (depending on the prospect). It isn’t rocket science. The Devils have a number of prospects much better than the Leafs. Considering that the Devils 1st will likely be late, the prospect will need to be essentially “can’t miss.” If the prospect is Nemec (i.e., and I don’t necessarily expect this) the calculus changes.

You are skirting the question. Luke Hughes? Alex Holtz? Are those the type of prospects (+1st, +more) you would expect?

You gave us Marner + 1st so I am curious to see what the equivalent ask would be from NJ, not "prospect they would be willing to move".

Based on this comment, you think Nemec has more value than Marner?

If the Capitals trade Tom Wilson they are in a full-fledged rebuild. Smart teams don’t rebuild around 25-year old, $10M Wingers. I’m not at all sold on Marner’s ability to be “The Guy” for a team to either draw fans or win games.

In this scenario, a recently drafted, Second Overall pick, at a premiere position, on an Entry-Level Contract is absolutely more valuable (when rebuilding a team basically from scratch) considering the direction the team would be choosing and it isn’t particularly close.

Mitch Marner is effectively Taylor Hall in this scenario. For the record, two rebuilding teams got better precisely when they traded Hall away.

Could see Buffalo offering something like 2023 1st, Savoie and Olofsson.
Not sure all Sabre fans will agree and the 2023 1st is a wildcard here but the offer has value. Leans more on the value of the pick.

I’m not sure Buffalo is a team that makes much sense. Why would the Sabres want Wilson and why would the Capitals trade him? Wilson and Tage Thompson is legit a nightmare.

While a good offer, Savoie isn’t a guarantee and the pick is obviously flexible value. If the Caps are trading Wilson I’ve got to imagine they’ll want more certainty in either the prospect or the pick. Making this trade today almost guarantees the pick isn’t as valuable. At the TDL? Could be very interesting.

I think Buffalo would want Wilson asap as they’re just outside contention. Wilson provides the skill and grit to allow buffalo’s younger skilled guys to thrive. Savoie is going to be a great NHLer and my favorite prospect in a long time so that offer stings. Olofsson just score his 11th goal in his 20th game and the first could be top 15 in a loaded draft.

Steeves + 1st + Kerfoot + Engvall
Literally nothing of interest here, this is a huge pile of crap. If Toronto doesn’t want these players why on earth would anyone else? Kerfoot and Engvall are both worthless Cap Dumps. Steeves is less than a prayer and the 1st is late. Hard, very hard pass.

You're right: If Washington doesn’t want Wilson why on earth would anyone else? Tell Brian that thanks to you I'm revoking my offer.

I haven’t checked the stats and Wilson hasn’t played this season but I think he’s currently close to out-scoring both Engvall and Kerfoot. Has anyone from any other team ever proposed a trade where they acquire either of these players? Why would anyone want them for anything?
