Y'all do realize that Wilson was a pretty decent offensive player in junior right? 58pts in 48 games his last season, also 30pts in 25 playoff games his last 2 seasons. He always had offensive upside, it's not his fault when he got drafted that an idiot like Oates was the coach who crafted him into the team goon and nothing else. I've always wanted him to get a run in the top 6, finally he's getting the chance and so far he's doing great.

If he had a good shot.... oh man
The biggest if is what if he was not asked to be an enforcer in the NHL at the age of 18. It's an incredibly stupid and irresponsible thing to do to a player. He should have been on the first/second line in Hershey for a couple of seasons.

He'll be a part of Caps' roster going forward. His contract is coming up this year and I expect him to be signed for 6-7 years at ~ $2.8mil per. He'll be worth every penny.

Current Wilson status:

Almost enough for mashed potatoes! Don't expect too much from this cook though.. you might be disappointed when the crop doesn't yield as much produce anymore.

He's got a nice streak.. good for him.

Nah he should be good for manhandling ranger players and harvesting sweet sweet ranger fan tears for a long time. That was brutal tonight, man against boys. Henrik looked like he wanted to kill himself after Willy's goal lol

Wait. Hold on.

Last year, when Guentzel and Sheary were put with Sid, both those players were considered only products of playing with the best player in the world.

Now, Wilson, who has largely been a meh player who crushes anything with a heartbeat, gets put with the greatest goalscorer of our generation AND a top 5 center in the league and suddenly, he's an amazing player and has "arrived?"

Never change hf boards. Never change.
Would you have Backstrom as a top 5 centre in the league?

Even as a Caps fan I have never been a fan of Tom Wilson.. still not. But I gotta say.. he looks pretty good so far this season. His power move goal tonight was a treat

Big Tom with 3 points in the first period tonight Nearly a 0.5 PPG pace on the year. Fast skater, hard shot, forecheck missile. Real handsome kid too.

So you're saying a former 16th overall pick is on pace for "nearly" 0.5 ppg has arrived?
Standards are getting low in Washington...

That might have some teeth if Wilson were on the team primarily for scoring. We know his game is more than that. but...since being moved to the first line he has 8pts in 8 games. Nick Backstrom who hadn't scored in 20 games has two goals in that time. Ovechkin has taken the league lead in goals. He has 14pts in his last 18 games. He is among the league leaders in fights and minor penalties drawn. He is one of their best defensive and penalty kill forwards on the team. I don't think he is a waste of a 16th pick

After multi point games butt hurt opposing fans continue to characterize Wilson as just a goon, trash.

Biased critics act like he's a washed up 30 year old. See bolded :snide:

If this new version of Tom Wilson stays then Caps may finally get passed 2nd round, he brings exactly what Caps usually are missing: hustle, winning battles in dirty areas and now scoring big goals

Tom Wilson is not what the Capitals are missing. I get that you are saying that Ovechkin and Backstrom don't do that. But Knuble did. Justin Williams did. Oshie does. I am not sure that I buy that Wilson has more of that desire than JDub did.

The Caps playoff problems have little or nothing to do with effort or desire

Wilson has been impressive lately, he's certainly got the ability to be be one of the more unique power forwards in the game because not only does he have some offensive upside, grit and can fight but he's a great defensive forward and has that reliability factor that a lot of power forwards are lacking. He'll never drive a scoring line on his own of course but he's a smart enough player to be way more than simply the "grind guy" you attach to a couple of scorers.

Knuble and Oshie did not bring that intimidation factor, opposing D has to worry about not getting killed by Wilson's bodycheck, it creates havoc and gives more space for Ovie and Backstrom, also Wilson brings speed which neither Knuble or Oshie have/had.

I disagree, when you are better team that keeps losing in the 2nd round there is some lack of effort and desire, but when you got Wilson on your line hustling on every shift, playing 200ft game and now scoring big goals then it jump starts your entire team and it makes Ovie and Backstrom also play with more energy

He has like 50% of his points in the last 3 games

Just a hot streak probably :(
