Prospect Info: Tom Willander: 11th Overall 2023 Draft (Rogle BK J20) - Part 02

Apparently Canucks don't wanna give out all the bonuses, I don't exactly know how all of this works, it was mentioned the other day.

I read a weird thing where Ryan Leonard has 450k conn smythe bonuses that others obviously cant get.

But just having them, even if HE doesnt hit em, makes his standard 950k way more wonky due to the 450k bonus.

Something about qualifying offer or bonus overage or something so your right there is something there with Tom too were trying to avoid.

I have absolute faith either way.

7.5 years as an ONLY 30 point dman and Tom is a top 10 alltime Canuck defenseman scorer.

Tyler Myers is one point away from top20, himself. (true story look it up).

Tommy WILL be a Canuck and for a long long time.

2 regular season games or an AHL playoff run.
You're thinking about it from the perspective of a fan who wants Willander to experience an AHL playoff run. I'd like that to happen too but it's not my decision and he has to do what he thinks is best for him and a 2 year vs. 3 year ELC looms large. My question is whether there is anything the team can offer to make up for it.

Philly messed up by doing this to Gauthier. Pressing the ahl pto then the contract.. led to Gauthier being pissed at the team.

Just give him the 2 games, especially if we are going to trade him in a package. Last we need is to trade someone who is known to want to get out(again)

Nobody knows exactly if this is going on, or if it's nothing, he could sign and everything be dandy in a couple days.

Let's wait a few days first

Plus isnt there a chance he plays for Team Sweden in some capacity instead? Thats been my dark place in the back of my mind that could drag this out even more for awhile now.

When do the world championships start again?

Performance bonuses. Lekkerimaki took 475K. Willander wants bigger bonuses.

Give him his bonuses and sign the contract. You don't want an Umberger situation all over again.

I have a sneaky bad feeling about all this... ugh...

Tom is a defensive Dman. Not going to hit points bonuses. Ice time and plus minus sure, but depending on his usage by HC. Does he beat out Myers for ice time?

So im on the Leafs board reading their Armchair GM thread.

Theyre making mention of a #3RHD upgrade on Haakanpaa.

To my delight I see a "Myers" reference as being acceptable.

I think, this is it!

We got em!

Bake him away toys!

Mission accomplished!

The vultures are circling our beautiful beautiful RHD depth.

Here's my shot to demand the moon for everything ranging from our Tom Willander to our Chaos Giraffe to our Cole McWard!

Turns out the leafs have Phillipe Myers, of former TBL fame.

Doh!

But my point stands. We're ooooooh so close to the vultures.

Get Tommy signed tonight!

Manicini, they did. Junior, they did not. All the emergency call-ups, other than Junior, are eligible.

Which tells you a lot about how they view Junior.

but how great would it be for abbo to go on a deep run with EP2, mancini, willander if he’s willing to give up burning the ELC year, lek, raty, sasson, karlsson, etc and they all learn what it is together

it would be when we had that 2005 moose team with kes, bieksa, and burrows.

I believe the issue was they wanted to preserve one of their call-ups.

Having your wider group of players come up through the farm ranks together is underrated.

Tampa Bay is an example of a team that has done this among the best in class, to their benefit.

That seems like such a small amount to haggle over though. This team has had so much drama this year, I feel the good news story of a Willander signing is much more important going into the offseason.

I wouldnt be as big of a deal of we didnt have the ghost of OEL on the balance sheet for the next 2 seasons at $4.8

Normally you give him the bonuses and are pumped for him reaching them

All reports from Drance are that the Canucks feel he's NHL ready, can play in the NHL right now, and actually expect him to win a job in training camp.
He will be in a battle with Mancini, McWard, for that 3RHD spot. I also think the canucks will only have 1 rookie to start the season, so that's also D-Petey as well. Figure they want 1 veteran on the bottom pairing and makes little sense to carry a rookie as the 7th guy, unless you are committed to a rotation on that bottom pair.

If that's the case then there is no reason for them to be cheap.

This I completely agree with. Just give them the bonuses they want since other players in his draft slot are getting them.

I think a big part of why they called Junior up and kept him on the roster, as well as not papering him down, is because they don't consider him a rookie. I wouldn't be surprised if they do roll with a rotation between Junior, Mancini, Willander, and a veteran. Or if someone doesn't perform in camp, send them to the AHL to start the season.
