Toffoli and Lindholm are more valuable, but not by this much. If Washington offered this I'd take it and run, and then try and flip those Washington players for more picks

Murphys a top four defenseman on a dirt cheap contract with term. No GM is giving up a first round pick for one year of a guy and either losing him to FA or giving him market value.

Not hard to comprehend
Murphy is a #7 guy for the Flames. #6 if we trade Hanifin. He's not a top 4 guy on most teams. We're talking a 34 goal 73 point player here and you're bringing up a bottom pairing defenseman who has never even hit 20 points. How delusional are you that these players are even remotely comparable?

With one year remaining.

With this logic Connor Murphy should net a first and a second.

Neither scenario is going to happen. If somebody was stupid to offer a second Calgary pushes that thru in seconds.
Every year teams overpay at the deadline by giving up first round picks for players having worse seasons, and you doubt they'll pay that for a full year? You really don't pay attention to this league at all.

I highly doubt it.

This is just another case of fans over valuing their own players.

Toffoli = Late 1st + 3rd
Hanafin = Mid 1st
Lindholm = Mid 1st + 2nd
Backlund = Late 1st
Tanev = 2nd + 3rd
Zadorov = 2nd + 2nd

adding:
4 - 1st rounds
4 - 2nd rounder
2 - 3rd rounders

Creating $27.6m in cap space, and potentially sign:
O'Rielly $5.75M x 6 years
Dumba $5.5m x 7 years
Bertuzzi $5.5M x 7 years.
Bunting $4.5M x 6 years
Soucy $3.75M x 4 years
Domi $3M x 2 years
Lol your optimism is astonishing

The trade deadline is when futures have their lowest value and expiring contracts have the most. The main value in waiting until the deadline is you have a pretty good idea if you're making the playoffs or not. The next best part is that about 75% of the player's cap hit has already been paid for the year, so the acquiring team usually can fit a big salary player for a few months. The calculus is a lot different 2 days before the draft. Everyone is excited to scoop up futures and wishes they had a few more picks

What is in the water in Calgary?

1. It's in Canada, weather, travel, taxes, pressure.
2. It looks to be a sinking ship honestly. Coming off a coach that the org basically had to mutiny against.
3. Shit hole of an Arena, Good news is a new one is coming but that's not really going to impact player decisions yet.
4. I personally don't think their main guy pulling the strings. Murray Edwards has a lot of love from his employees and it reverberates down to the player base.

It's going to be a hard turn around. As an Edmontonian with a lot of family in Calgary it's not anything I'm excited about. Was looking forward to some more battle of Alberta but that may not be in the future.
