I'm straight up trying to decide if Tyler Madden is better than Alex Turcotte. Seems like comparable players.

Toffoli (nothing retained) for Madden (40th best NHL prospect on Pronman's list) and the (as of now) #48 overall, in a deep draft. Add Schaller...for 22 games. So what. This helps the tank and can keep Vilardi, etc in Ontario to help lead them to playoffs.

Excellent deal. Consider the Kings' #2 picks last several years: Cernak, Clague, JAD, Thomas, Kaliyev, Fagemo. The Kings OWN round 2 and will now get the 48th overall selection in a deep draft.

Madden and the 2nd round pick are the key pieces of the deal for the Kings. Hopefully the Canucks fall in the standings and the 2nd round pick moves up the board. We now have reason to root for Calgary and Phoenix the rest of the season.

Madden is only 20 years of age, so at least in terms of age he is in the range the Kings are looking for in any trades they make. If the stats on his size are correct, Madden needs to get with the strength coach in the off season and add some muscle to his frame.

There was a time I half-joked that I'd rather have the Kings picking in the 2nd than the first, heh.

Good move to get a very good prospect along with the 2nd round pick. This accelerates the rebuild so that we're not waiting another 4 years until the Kings are ready to compete.

Madden was one of college hockey's top scorers as a sophomore prior to his injury. Good chance he's competing for a roster spot in a year and a half.

It would be kind of cool if the pick ends up being the 47th overall. Full circle recycling and picking up a good prospect in Madden.

Madden has a bit of a scoring flair, kind of like Johnny Gaudreau. He likes to handle the puck and try to dangle around opponents. The Kings don't have many of those types on the roster or in the pipeline, so it's nice to see them add a unique skillset that they are missing. Time will tell how he'll pan out, but this is the type of trade that needs to be made.

Now are there still any lost individuals who are still pondering the direction of the team?

Kupari will never play up the middle in the NHL. KHL maybe if he finds the learning curve here too long, but not the NHL. He is a Silfverberg style winger in the making. Doesn't know how to play a controlled team game at all, but has terrific outside skills. He is looking at a loooooooong AHL stay.

especially with a f***ed knee

Vancouver is really going for it eh?

There's a potential path to at least the conference final. The Pacific is wide open, and Nashville and Winnipeg are certainly beatable. Don't want to slip to WC2, assuming it's Colorado or maybe St.Louis, but anything better than that, and it's there for the taking.

Good trade, actually. Most were thinking 2nd and prospect. Ended up with a roster filler for the rest of the year, top 50 prospect, 2nd round pick, and a conditional 4th. I’m assuming it’s conditional based on if Toffoli resigns in Vancouver.

If you’re currently tanking for a high pick, Tim Schaller is like the Wayne Gretzky of tanking additions and you should probably also be stoked about that. Absolutely atrocious player who will single-handedly cost you a few points in the standings down the stretch. ‘Defensive forward’ who is actually crap defensively while being a complete offensive black hole.

Looks like we have our 2020 Brian Willsie. :naughty:

Now just pull off the same for Marty and I’d call it a massive win!
Madden is likely headed to Ontario next year so that’s a very nice piece along with Fagemo, Dudas, Moverare, Ingham, maybe Turcotte plus the returning players like JAD, Kupari(healthy of course), Bjornfot, Anderson, Brickley and more...
Our feeder AHL pipeline will be on track to develop and deliver much needed talent

Looking at the salary structure for the Canucks with all their performance bonuses this year and next, I think it's extremely unlikley that toffoli re-signs in Vancouver. the conditional 4th also indicates that to me.

Oh yeah, I can't see us having much of a chance to re-sign him as we already have Markstrom/Tanev/Virtanen/Stetcher to sign and are already anticipating losing one of them cause we decided it was a good idea to spent like $25MM on our bottom 6 and $30MM for Tyler Myers.
