Meh return but more ammo for a goalie in the summer or even later today

Yep
normally that would make sense but seeing that the devils and flames sounded like 95% way completed i doubt some extra 2/3 picks are the reason it didnt cross the finish line.

a second has the same value no matter what the year.
It really doesn't, but keep telling yourself what you want to. I laugh at all these draft projections two years out - oh this year isn't a great draft but next year is. Even if it bears out, that doesn't mean pick 40 this year isn't gonna be better than pick 55 in 'two' years.

isn't 2025 to be considered a better draft than 2024?

So wouldn't a 2nd next year be better than this year?
you would think so, but generally when a draft is deeper there isn't much of a difference after the first round. When they talk about a draft being deep, they usually mean more high end first round players.

So we got a 3rd back that we dealt and a 2nd for a guy that had a minimal role here and was ineffective and benched in the playoffs.

I was told there was a bidding war. Gimme Yegor back dammit.

Ya, I heard a few teams were willing to add some pucks and sticks to their deals.

ooof on paper.... the 2nd rd pick is 2025? but as someone just alluded to, if that draft class happens to be deeper/better, maybe we're ok?

oh well, what's done is done. we'll take it and move.

I doubt any team was giving up a 1st for Toff, whether it was this yr or next, Fitz would've jumped on it.

Regardless you don't build a team by constantly winning trades in a vacuum, turning $1.00 into $1.10 into $1.20 on some imaginary ledger. You build it by acquiring key contributors/talent that can coalesce with your core guys and turn it into a winning hockey team.

I think within 10 games it will be very clear Toffoli was the wrong acquisition for this team, and we'll be grateful they didn't extend him and got some sort of draft capital to utilize to improve goaltending in the offseason.

Yes it does as you don't know where that team is going to finish. Now if you knew exaclty where the team was gonig to finish, then you would have a point. Unless you have a crystal ball and can see where they are gonig to finish in the playoffs this year and next year. at least next year there is the opportunity for it to be an early second as they may not make the playoffs
