Tocchet Do We Really Need Him

Personally, Rick is hired to coach, not complain about a practice facility. I don’t recall any coach or players ever complaining about having their own facility.

Also 5 million for a guy whois only won 1 round is kinda pricey. Mike
Babcock for example has Stanley cup rings, gold medals on his resume and he was 4 million. I’m ok with moving on to another coach.
Yeah.

A coach wanting to have NHL level facilities to work with is just wild. Good riddance.

I agree that it’s up to the players to train during the summer. I’m not sure how this topic came up, as I don’t recall this ever being an issue with our players in the past—except for Jake Virtanen.

We do have a workout facility. It would be nice to have our own dedicated practice facility, but this team seems to have done without one for… well… over 30 years. I don’t see why it’s suddenly an urgent issue now.

If Rick isn’t interested in coming back, then we have to move on. I find him overrated. I don’t understand why he refuses to stack the lines occasionally. We’ve clearly seen how effective it was when Edmonton did it. It’s crazy that we had our own “Lotto Line” with Boeser, Miller, and Pettersson, yet after two of those players left, he never once tried revisiting that combination. It’s outright disgraceful that he expects everyone to play the game exactly the way he would.

I’m open to trying new coaches like Gerard Gallant, Peter Laviolette, or Mike Sullivan.

Tocchet taking a shot at the owner, is probably an indication we're at 'the end of the line'.

According to IMac's article on Sportsnet, it was an issue Tocchet raised with management three years ago, and was assured a practice facility was at hand. Clearly the Aquilini's are dragging their feet and Tocchet has basically called them out.

The big problem without a practice facility is that players can't or won't stay in Vancouver and train in the off-season. So it's much harder for the coaching staff to figure out where they're at. As we saw with Pettersson last off-season' and Joshua the year before that, it can be a big problem.

I'd now be genuinely shocked if the owners offered a long term deal to Tocchet for $5m a season. So IMac and Quinn Hughes are destined to be disappointed in my opinion.

They could hire Sullivan, but he won't come cheap. Manny Malhotra, on the other hand, will as a rookie coach. If he succeeds in guiding the Abbotsford Canucks to a long Calder Cup run--then he's probably 'their guy'.

lol that's on Tocchet for buying that

he signed up for a team without a practice facility, and even if we identify and purchase a site, it's still gonna take years to build the thing.

Rutherford stated it, they wouldn't exercise the option because they don't want a coach with something else on his mind, now there are two things, practice facility which to me is ridiculous, they could easily arranged for ice time for the year at any of the numerous ice sheets in the area,

IMO this is another red herring used by the owned media to distract fans. Using this example they distract from Allvin. Obviously the owner's are not going to spend a couple of hundred million so Tocchet can have a regular office away from the arena.

They could easily lease/rent Canlan Sports Complex for ALL practices for both teams for the hours they need for practice. They aren't practicing when most youth teams are needing ice AND it would make players closer to the fans instead of creating a bigger gap. They also have multiple ice sheets and lots of parking.

This is a professional sports team, worth hundreds of millions of dollars, they shouldn't have to rent ice at a local arena, what an absurd idea.

This is absolutely on ownership and it absolutely should have been built by now. Why the shit are we the only team that doesn't have one? Even the Flames are building one ffs.

The UBC Thunderbird Arena is pretty nice. Unless there are unreported stories of the Canucks being unable to schedule practices or something, I don't think that can really have been a major issue for Tocchet.

The agrodome, which has been touted as the dedicated PCWHL facility, is literally a shithole in comparison. It literally smells like shit in there.

I think it's easier for Tocchet to point to a lack of a dedicated practice facility issue than to say "the team's getting worse and I want out" or something like that.

The fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter how many ice rinks are available for rent around Vancouver. If a player in 30 other teams wants to go skate at 11pm one night and 623am the next day they can no complications.

If a player on 30 other teams wants to hit the gym, then get worked on by a PT, then skate they can without driving anywhere else, any time they want. Can't do that in Vancouver.

Public rinks have just that, the public present. If 30, soon to be 31 other teams have something it's no longer an a luxury item, it's a necessity. It's an expectation.

We all saw the video of mackenzie weegar walking into the flames locker room the first time... you don't want to be the odd team out for the wrong reasons. If canucks are chasing a ufa and they're offering the same $ as another but that team can offer more amenities they're going to win.

Did you listen to JR or an actual NHL hockey player, Hansen?

8 or 9 practices outside of Rogers all year.

Players prefer to practice in their home arena so they can get a home ice advantage, sight lines, active boards, reflections. Especially for the goalies and positioning. Remember how Luongo always had a hard time vs the Preds? It was the surroundings were off for him.

How much money should the cities or province kick in? 50% more, 150 million?
Vancouver is one the very few team's that have had no public money since Roger was built, that was all privately funded. Didn't Alberta government kick in something like 500 million in total and the city provide free land? Winnipeg? Doesn't the city/province own that arena? Who owns NJD's arena? Who owns these practice facilities in other cities? Just because a team has access to one is it their own or provided by the local governments? Wasn't that the reason Arizona had to move, because the state law didn't allow for government handouts?

So if there is anger about not having a practice facility maybe start on your local politicians to kick in a few hundred million, like so many other teams get.

How about the billionaire slumlords get off their wallets and stop asking for handouts?

You work on it? Get into a political party or movement?

There are several that don't even live in the city and are much, much even worse. They just demolished a building that one of those guys let run down to the point of being a danger of falling pieces.

There 50 or so that don't even live in Canada that just renovict long term tenants. Those are absentee owners.

The Canucks don't ask for money from government, they pay taxes. That better than the city or province owning the facility. Wasn't it like 300+ to refurbish the stadium? And now the upkeep?

Should the city put up 100+ million so the Canucks can practice 8 or 9 times a year?

The city should put up 0 and the aquas should pay for it. They have made more than enough profit to easily cover it. Also to be clear the billionaire slumlords I was talking about were the team owners. The current owners didnt build the arena so let's not credit them for someone else's work

You know the worst slum lords in the city are the government run places and foreign owners?

Bluntly the team doesn't need a practice facility, players don't prefer it, want one or need one here, in some places they HAVE to have one but not here. This story will die soon. It always was a red herring.

They are nice when they don't have a choice, then they want a nice one but not needed here and the governments have better ways to waste their money.
