Tocchet Do We Really Need Him

Frank Seravalli reporting that the Canucks have made a contract offer to Tochett. But I guess all that does is preserve the 'club option' on his services for next season.

I'm assuming he still would have the right to turn down the contract offer and gain his independence. I think he'd be crazy not to at least listen to what Flyers come up with, compared to what the Canucks are offering.

That's not how team options work.

dont think tocchett will stay despite what offers they give him. lots of teams will have no problem giving him a 4-5yr deal. theres a couple of coaches i think would be a fit for vancouver or looked at.

jay woodcroft, gerard gallant. mike sullivan? 2nd go around but he doesnt like to play young players. loves his veterans. plus history with current mangement group. or they go outside the box and find european coaches who are more open in terms of giving their players more freedom creativity

coach at the end of his career bloodying some jobber i’ve never heard of with a flurry of rypien-esque lefts

I had to look up this Marc Moro because he didn't ring a bell at all. Turns out he was a goon that was drafted as the 27th overall pick in 1995.

My god drafting was bad back then. Pure goon drafted in the 2nd. Hell of stat line, though.

The only way he doesn't come back next season is if Vancouver opts out and they've already said they see him as their coach and want him here long term.

If Vancouver uses their team option he can't just quit and go to another team. He could quit and go back to TNT but that's not really Tocchet, now is it? Even if they don't get a long term deal done, I could see them using the team option for the mean time to try to get a deal done or explore other options.
Doubt they force him to just play out his last year as a lame duck coach.

If he doesnt sign its because Aqua refused to pay him.

I think that is a negotiating tactic.
Most likely, but they also put a lot of effort into getting Tocchet on board and took a lot of arrows for how boudreau was treated on the way out.

They're going to do everything to keep him. Plus with the less the "admirable " way of they've handled some personal decisions, I wouldn't say actually doing that is out of the question.

I think Woodcroft and Gallant are poor choices if management wants strong defensive structure and holding players accountable (even though this almost never happens to the extent fans think players should be held accountable). I think if Sullivan is available management would sign him in a heart beat.

This Tocchet to Philly BS is the same sort of shit as those rumour mongering for Hughes to NJ......it's good press but just not ever gonna happen. Shame on anyone who actually was stating this.....

The second Torts was out in Philly Tocchet was as good as gone from here; this will be his last real big kick at the can and if things work out he could make a fortune AND return to a place that he remembers fondly and who remembers him fondly as well which means he will have much more rope with which he can hang himself. They could suck for ages and they won't fire him...

Wrong wrong wrong and wronnnnngggggg. Like really really wrong.........
