Are you his ****ing lawyer?

You asked for a source and I gave you one.

no.

I asked for two sources.

He refused to sign an elc, forced a trade, and now he is threatening to leave for the KHL because he wants more money.

It's almost like he wants to capitalize his earnings in a business where most careers only last a few years. What a shocker!

None of what you said points to attitude issues. Wanting more money/the right development system =/= having attitude issues.

If you're going to make claims, at least admit you're guessing and assuming before you make it seem like a fact. Like add the words "I think" or "I'm guessing".

Yah totally. Who would want to play with a scrub like McDavid. :sarcasm:

I wasn't aware a 16 year old Connor McDavid was under property of the Edmonton Oilers. Someone should investigate that.

He didn't want to join the 2012-2013 Oilers development system. What they have in 2016 is irrelevant to him wanting to leave in 2013. The Oilers are on a way better track now than they were 4 years ago. Anyone will admit that.

"In my opinion" you are just as biased as I am here. Mr "Plug fought rookie and won"..

You are reaching with "wanting the right development system", please post 8 sources where he says that was a reason for asking for a trade. :shakehead

If he goes to the KHL or another Euro team, the the Yotes still own his NHL rights.

That's a trade chip that opens up a spot for one of their young players. Maybe a waiver claim that works out. Maybe a trade that gives Arizona the replacement for Rieder.

EDIT: As a Detroit fan, I watched Hudler leave for the KHL. Just trying to bring positive.

I'm guessing the KHL thing is just posturing but, even if he did go, wouldn't the Coyotes still own his rights if/when he wanted to come back?

I'd play hardball here if I'm Arizona. I'd call his bluff and offer to buy him a plane ticket to Russia. My guess is that he folds 'em.

Don't get me wrong I love Reider and really hope we sign him. But if there is 1 type of player we could relace it's a fast skilled left handed shot lw. Now with that being said I think we should just pony up and pay the guy unless he's asking for more then 3.5 per.

Some RFA signings from this Summer:
Pstn-Nm-Age(7/1)-NHLGP-NHLPPG-CtctYrs-CtctAvg.
W-Marcus Johansson-25-419gp-0.55ppg-3yrs-$4.58m
C-Vincent Trochek-22-146gp-0.57ppg-6yrs-$4.75m
W-Brayden Schenn-24-354gp-0.55ppg-4yrs-$5.13m
W-Andrew Shaw-24-322gp-0.43ppg-6yrs-$3.90m
W-Jaden Schwartz-24-240gp-0.65ppg-5yrs-$5.35m
W-Chris Kreider-25-248gp-0.52ppg-4yrs-$4.63m
W-Boone Jenner-23-185gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.90m
W-Kyle Palmieri-25-280gp-0.52ppg-5yrs-$4.65m
W-Tomas Hertl-22-200gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$3.00m
C-Victor Rask-23-160gp-0.51ppg-6yrs-$4.00m
C-Kevin Hayes-24-158gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.60m
W-Jesper Fast-24-148gp-0.30ppg-2yrs-$1.00m

Compared to:
W-Tobias Rieder-23-154gp-0.38ppg

Let's look at guys who are actually closer to Rieder as comparables.
-Let's cap NHLgp at 82(3) - 246gp
-Let's cap NHLppg at .55

That removes:
W-Marcus Johansson-25-419gp-0.55ppg-3yrs-$4.58m
C-Vincent Trochek-22-146gp-0.57ppg-6yrs-$4.75m
W-Brayden Schenn-24-354gp-0.55ppg-4yrs-$5.13m
W-Andrew Shaw-24-322gp-0.43ppg-6yrs-$3.90m
W-Jaden Schwartz-24-240gp-0.65ppg-5yrs-$5.35m
W-Chris Kreider-25-248gp-0.52ppg-4yrs-$4.63m
W-Kyle Palmieri-25-280gp-0.52ppg-5yrs-$4.65m

And Leaves:
W-Boone Jenner-23-185gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.90m
W-Tomas Hertl-22-200gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$3.00m
C-Victor Rask-23-160gp-0.51ppg-6yrs-$4.00m
C-Kevin Hayes-24-158gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.60m
W-Jesper Fast-24-148gp-0.30ppg-2yrs-$1.00m

Let's look at Jenner and Fast. Both are responsible defensively and PK like Rieder.

Let's average their numbers:
Age(7/1)-23.5
NHLGP-166
NHLPPG-0.41
CtctYrs-2yrs
CtctAvg-$1.95m

Compared to Rieder:
Age(7/1)-23
NHLGP-154gp
NHLGP-0.38ppg

2yrs at 2mil average looks pretty fair for Rieder to me.

Let's average this group:
W-Boone Jenner-23-185gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.90m
W-Tomas Hertl-22-200gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$3.00m
C-Victor Rask-23-160gp-0.51ppg-6yrs-$4.00m
C-Kevin Hayes-24-158gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.60m
W-Jesper Fast-24-148gp-0.30ppg-2yrs-$1.00m

Age(7/1)-23.2
NHLGP-170
NHLPPG-0.47
CtctYrs-3yrs
CtctAvg-$2.7m

Rieder is 9% less productive than that. So 3yrs, 2.46mil seems pretty fair to me.

I'd say he deserves either 2 or 3yrs at somewhere between 2mil and 2.5mil based on:
W-Boone Jenner-23-185gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.90m
W-Tomas Hertl-22-200gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$3.00m
C-Victor Rask-23-160gp-0.51ppg-6yrs-$4.00m
C-Kevin Hayes-24-158gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.60m
W-Jesper Fast-24-148gp-0.30ppg-2yrs-$1.00m

As comparables.

Nice work RT. I have always though Reider is worth 2.5 mill+ but less then 3 mill for 2-3 years. The Coyotes have zero incentive to over pay. If Reider wants to play in Europe for 1 mill, go ahead. His agent is posturing, that is all. RFA's have close to zero rights. reider will sign with the Coyotes.

http://arizonasports.com/story/737080/coyotes-tobias-rieders-agent-sides-not-close-contract-talks/

"Rieder’s three-year, $2.8 million entry-level contract expired on July 1. He made $920,000 last season and was due a qualifying offer with a 10 percent increase in salary. Ferris feels Toronto’s Nazem Kadri ($4.5 million AAV) is a fair comparable given his similar production level last season (45 points) and Rieder’s superior analytics in terms of possession. He also cited recently signed free agent Jamie McGinn (three years, $10 million), but the Coyotes have other comparables in mind."

I hadn't seen his agent also used McGinn as a comparable. His agent sounds like a complete idiot. The deals are nothing alike. If he got 3.3m I think every Coyote fan would be okay with that. Kadri's is just too high.

I really don't understand if the two sides are so far apart that the KHL is being mentioned why they don't just sign a 1 year, 2.5m prove it deal and look to next year.

One of my favourite players to watch. I hope he sticks around, I'd love to see Montreal go after him if available trade wise.

I assumed the sarcasm was related to the previous sentence (Why would anyone not want to play with Connor McDavid?) because everyone wants to play with Connor McDavid. The problem was he wasn't there in 2013. I know what the emote means.

I guess if you expect Reider to have a crystal ball and sign with what was the Tambellini Oilers, then yes, yes he would have been better off.

The bottom line is that he didn't want to earn his way to the NHL in the Oilers system. He would've made our team at some point because he can PK and play a two way game. Regardless, his supposed asking price is ridiculous for a RFA and he wouldn't get it in Edmonton just like he probably won't in Arizona.

NHL will push ARI and possibly NHLPA to keep this kid in this league and not set an example for other upcoming players like him.. Losing talent to a rival league wouldnt be in NHL's best interest. They might force ARI to trade him to another club.

Asking for that much money after one good year where he still didn't hit 40 points is crazy lol.

I was honestly expecting some sort of bridge deal for him in the $2.75m - $3.25m range.

10M for 3 years? I'd gladly pay him that if we had room. That's really cheap for what he brings...

That's some random opinion of yours and pretty uneducated.

If I was Reider and saw the Oilers top-6 at that time... I would have probably wanted a different team too. Hall-RNH-Eberle-Gagner-Hemsky-Yakupov-Horcoff-MPS-Smyth. The development system had nothing to do with his decision. The top-9 was pretty much set.

He's had 2 good years IMO. That bridge sounds about right, but who knows what the Yotes are offering.

Like the NHL did with St. Louis and Sobotka? The NHL might intervene in the case of a Crosby, Ovechkin or McDavid. Rieder, while a good young player, is dime a dozen.
