Both Metallurg and Avangard are at their foreigner limit, so to bring on Rieder, someone would have to be dropped.

This guy has such an attitude. He requested a trade from Edmonton because he didnt feel he was far enough up on their depth chart.

Love the player, very fun to watch.....but man, some sort of entitlement issue he has.
Sucks he'd rather waste away a year in the KHL. Hope he smartens up. Otherwise, that 1 year away from the NHL could cost him his career. There's lots of hungry, young guys just waiting to take his spot.

Normally I'd agree but the agent 3 weeks ago also in the same interview dropped the "could play in Europe" bomb and now there's this KHL rumor.

He also said back then that he thinks there will be a way to work this out and that he won't think about it now and leave it to his agent.
This is purely posturing by the agent, I'll eat my hat if he actually goes to the KHL.

Well, leaving that train wreck of an organization was clearly the best career decision for him. So, well done.

10 million/3 years is a comparable that the player's agent is using? Meaning it could be negotiated down a bit? He's worth that.

Not really too far down he was next in line but he saw that edmonton was filled with small skilled forwards and didn't think he would get a shot.
He was on the top line in the ahl when he was here but at the time edmonton was tiny so would call up bigger guys below him.

And fair enough to him he was in the nhl either that year or the next year for the coyotes.

So he ended up on the Coyotes lol

He never played for the Oilers AHL team

W-Jesper Fast-24-148gp-0.30ppg-2yrs-$1.00m

Compared to:
W-Tobias Rieder-23-154gp-0.38ppg

Let's look at guys who are actually closer to Rieder as comparables.
-Let's cap NHLgp at 82(3) - 246gp
-Let's cap NHLppg at .55

That removes:
W-Marcus Johansson-25-419gp-0.55ppg-3yrs-$4.58m
C-Vincent Trochek-22-146gp-0.57ppg-6yrs-$4.75m
W-Brayden Schenn-24-354gp-0.55ppg-4yrs-$5.13m
W-Andrew Shaw-24-322gp-0.43ppg-6yrs-$3.90m
W-Jaden Schwartz-24-240gp-0.65ppg-5yrs-$5.35m
W-Chris Kreider-25-248gp-0.52ppg-4yrs-$4.63m
W-Kyle Palmieri-25-280gp-0.52ppg-5yrs-$4.65m

And Leaves:
W-Boone Jenner-23-185gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.90m
W-Tomas Hertl-22-200gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$3.00m
C-Victor Rask-23-160gp-0.51ppg-6yrs-$4.00m
C-Kevin Hayes-24-158gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.60m
W-Jesper Fast-24-148gp-0.30ppg-2yrs-$1.00m

Let's look at Jenner and Fast. Both are responsible defensively and PK like Rieder.

Let's average their numbers:
Age(7/1)-23.5
NHLGP-166
NHLPPG-0.41
CtctYrs-2yrs
CtctAvg-$1.95m

Compared to Rieder:
Age(7/1)-23
NHLGP-154gp
NHLGP-0.38ppg

2yrs at 2mil average looks pretty fair for Rieder to me.

Let's average this group:
W-Boone Jenner-23-185gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.90m
W-Tomas Hertl-22-200gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$3.00m
C-Victor Rask-23-160gp-0.51ppg-6yrs-$4.00m
C-Kevin Hayes-24-158gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.60m
W-Jesper Fast-24-148gp-0.30ppg-2yrs-$1.00m

Age(7/1)-23.2
NHLGP-170
NHLPPG-0.47
CtctYrs-3yrs
CtctAvg-$2.7m

Rieder is 9% less productive than that. So 3yrs, 2.46mil seems pretty fair to me.

I'd say he deserves either 2 or 3yrs at somewhere between 2mil and 2.5mil based on:
W-Boone Jenner-23-185gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.90m
W-Tomas Hertl-22-200gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$3.00m
C-Victor Rask-23-160gp-0.51ppg-6yrs-$4.00m
C-Kevin Hayes-24-158gp-0.51ppg-2yrs-$2.60m
W-Jesper Fast-24-148gp-0.30ppg-2yrs-$1.00m

As comparables.

I think it is clear that he wants a long term contract, and the Coyotes are saying no. Wasn't Boedker in the same light - he wanted like a 5 year deal at $3.75 M AAV his first go around?

I can support above $3.0 M AAV if, and only if, Rieder signs for 4+ years. But it can't be terribly far above $3.0 M AAV either.

What? He didn't play in OKC he was traded while he was in the CHL.

I think you're thinking of Rajala. Rieder refused to sign his ELC.

Good on him. If the Coyotes are not willing to pay what he wants then seek it elsewhere (or posture until a team bites).

As always, it's the agent causing all this BS, not the player.

So what you are saying is for every NHL team pay what the players want?

Jakob Silfverberg and the contract he signed last off season would make for a decent comparable to establish the high end of the scale for Rieder IMO.

At that time he was 24, with 181 NHL games under his belt. He had put up .45 points per game, and also was just coming off a huge playoff run (18 points in 16GP). Silfverberg had gained the trust of his coach as arguably the teams best defensive winger and one of the top PKers.

Silfverberg signed a 4 year deal worth $15M (3.75M AAV). Rieder may be a similar talent but he doesn't have the leverage to pull in that much right now. A one or two year "show me" deal could actually help him cash in more in the long run anyway.

What did Hoffmann get at arbitration last year. He was more Accomplished player and he got less than 2 mill for 1 year. Reider has done it for 1 year only, lets see it again b4 you get paid. Arizona needs a show me contract at 2 years x 1.5 per year to 1.75 per year.

He can go to the KHL........ He is only screwing up his future contracts. Hoffman was a good soldier played out his 1 year show me contract and is about to get paid big time this year. Only after showing the goods for a 2 nd year.

So you cited one source. Wheres the other?

Or are you assuming he has an attitude with no evidence?

Are you his ****ing lawyer?

You asked for a source and I gave you one.

He refused to sign an elc, forced a trade, and now he is threatening to leave for the KHL because he wants more money.

People gave Schultz so much **** for not signing with Anaheim but at least he used a legit loophole. Rieder just wanted a fast track to the NHL and forced a trade. So yah I personally think he has an attitude problem.
