He didn't do a "great job". There's been zero results. No success. None.

To use a baseball analogy, the guy inherited a team on third base, no outs, primed for the game winning hit.

He struck out. Five times.
Really? Wonder why teams want him as GM, including one that won the Stanley Cup last year.

Even Shanahan wanted to bring him back.

They're still fans of this team as well.

I am not a Dubas guy per se and thought change was needed, but perhaps it's an opportunity to end a lot of the divisiveness about it.
It was time, core and Keefe are next

It will be Lou Vs Dubas constantly again. Which was toxic
I don't think they're intending to hire two guys and have them battle it out Roman style. Next GM should either be the new guy or Pridham, Shanny learned his lesson.

Apparently Shanahan wanted to bring Dubas back.

Nothing says "I like losing" more than keeping Dubas around. Obviously Shanahan enjoys the losing. He wants to see more of it.

I wish my standards were that low.

Just firing Dubas isn't enough. This franchise will NEVER win anything under Shanahan. It's a fact of life.

Like the birds and the bees.

It's rather simple actually. Either enjoy the losing or stop supporting them. It's one of the other.

There is no other choice.

Sad really. The only way to get ownership to make change is to abandon your hometown team. But let's face it, this joke of a team isn't worth spending money on anyway.

I would love someone in the media who doesn't give a damn about their job to ask Shanahan the tough questions when he becomes available next.

Like "Is it true you sat there and watched while Dubas ran the team into the ground?"

To which Shanahan will have no choice but to throw himself under the bus and say he took a hands off approach. Either that or admit that he played a role in creating this mess.

It's too much for someone in this media to ask a tough question though.

The only thing Leafs related I've bought all year is a calendar. The way I look at is if you're still supporting them financially, you're part of the problem. Stop buying tickets and merchandise. Put the money into supporting your local little league team instead.

Even if they never win, at least they'll appreciate it.

Saying Dubas did all he could and it was on the players ignores his biggest failure: he believed in them. There are a lot of people who could see this group didn't have what it takes mentally but Dubas was blind to it which ultimately cost him his job.
Yup. Undesreved loyalty killed him. He's dead Jim.

Best case scenario, all the Dubas fan club can f*** right off and leave this board for wherever Dubas lands. I don't don't about you guys, I'm a Leaf fan first, not a groupie for whoever is signing cheques.
Most people are Leaf fans first. I would bet that the number of Dubas fans that leave the board and follow Dubas to another team are the same number who followed Lou to the NYI.

Muzzin & Brodie were probably his best moves. Hyman was coming to TO no matter what.
If Florida traded him.

the problem is, for many, simply showing up is expected to be considered "a great job".

bare minimum is celebrated these days...so it doesn't take much to create an illusion of a great job.

Calling the Leafs’ GM job “cushy” is an astounding lack of awareness. It’s anything but.

Dubas' first hire should have been Kypreos. Until half joking.

Here is Kypreos on July 1st, 2018 talking about the Tavares contract that was just signed and what it will likely mean for Marner's post-ELC deal. Pretty much Nostradamus. (The video below is from today's show talking mostly about Dubas leaving but they play a clip from 2018 at about 1:49:00 in.)

Too lazy to fast forward? Paraphrased: "If I'm Mitch Marner I'm rejecting $6-7M or whatever now, play the season on Tavares' wing and come back next summer looking for $10-11 million."

Can you please explain to me what you see in this guy that makes him so infallible? I honestly do not get it whatsoever. Now before I continue. I do feel bad for him because of the amount of times he went to bat for Matthews, Marner and the other members of the core and the number of times that they let him down come playoff time. But other than that, I couldn't be happier that he's gone. Because look at the long laundry list of blunders that he's made here.

- Kadri for Barrie & Kerfoot
- Trading a 3rd for David Rittich
- Trading a 1st for Foligno
- Signing Mrazek than having to use a 1st to offload him
- Protecting Holl over McCann in the expansion draft
- Paying Marner $11m when that was no where near the market rate for a right winger at the time.
- Trading Marchment for Malgin.
- Trading for an injury prone has been in Murray

And these are just off the top of my head. There was many more. Not to mention the fact that in the 5 years that he was here, they only made it past the first round once. And even in that series they got out played in 5 out of the 6 games.

It's like I said. I just don't get the love and the borderline "I'm done with this team if they get rid if Dubas" mentality that some of you have on here.

Make it make sense.
You left out the worst - that horrible Tavares contract!

They will get to experience the same soon enough with the next GM.

Oh it will be glorious, and I cannot wait for it! Gonna be a shitshow for yeaaaars!
Should be only two more years, if the new GM can hang on until JT is gone.

Shanahan just seems like he’s the laziest sob. Keeping dubas was his 8nitial preference because it’s less work for him. Now he has to look and interview for a new gm. You think shanny wants to be interviewing candidates in the heat of summer? Hell no, he’d rather have dubas retained he can look after everything and shanny can go back smoking cigars with the good OL boys fletcher and co. And retell wings cup stories from yesteryear

Now he can focus on his WWE addiction. That clown could’ve got a lot more done if he wasn’t balls deep on smackdown. Bum

I can’t figure out why there is a select group that adore Dubas. Maybe it’s because Dubas is similar to them regarding having zero clue how to build a team and relying on spreadsheets? It’s funny how the Dubas jock junkies are upset. Hopefully they follow him to wherever he ends up. Hopefully in the Atlantic division as that will help future playoff success.
Which people are upset? Some think it wasn't the rightvl move. I have not seen any one stating that they are upset. Disappointed maybe, but not upset.

You misunderstood what I meant. I meant whoever the new GM, it will be Dubas Vs New GM just how it was with Lou Vs Dubas

You think other teams have the resources, training facilities, medical staff, analytics, management team the Leafs have?

A GM's job is the same regardless of team you're employed for, the luxuries the Leafs are afforded are night and day from other franchises.

This move only matter if the next guy makes us win
Plain and simple
Dubas tried and failed
I like dubas but leafs lost under his vision so let’s see who is next
He and keefe had one of the top 5 teams in the league and have nothing to show for it in 9 years?
