People are forgetting what years under Nonis, Burke, Ferguson were like.

Deals happened with zero logic and you'd just hope things work out.
You are forgetting Lou who was the primary force in restoring class and professionalism back to the organization. And i can guarantee you he would not have been fleeced by Tavares, Matthews and Marner the way Dufus was.

Time to move on.

Dubas is history now. Just like Lou, Nonis, Burke, JFJ etc. There's no point in revisiting the past with any of them.

- Kadri for Barrie & Kerfoot
If Kadri didn't block the first trade, it would have been better. Kadri is a liability and proved it in Colorado.

- Trading a 3rd for David Rittich
Insurance, but ya, would have preferred it didn't happen.

- Trading a 1st for Foligno
Bad, especially with hindsight.

- Signing Mrazek than having to use a 1st to offload him
Barely moved back in the draft, happy he cuts players if they aren't working, but yes, bad signing.

- Protecting Holl over McCann in the expansion draft
Fine with it, McCann is a playoff dud too. Holl + Muzzin was a great pairing, and he was 2 million. Holl has fallen off a lot.

- Paying Marner $11m when that was no where near the market rate for a right winger at the time.
Overpaid by a little for sure (1-2 mil), but sucks he had some really good seasons before signing.

- Trading Marchment for Malgin.
Marchment had a good half-season, go check his stats.

- Trading for an injury prone has been in Murray
I liked the gamble on two goalies, sucks he is injured, one worked out.

---------

He's not infallible, and I don't think he has fans, I think he is a good GM, and likely better than what we can get, that's all, I am a fan of the team and want what's best.

I think he's done far more good than bad.

Goddamn the Wonder Boy flamed out pretty disastrously. Had the cushiest job in hockey at the age of 37, Shanny decides to turn his back on him when he came back and asked for more $$$$.

Used the family as a bargaining chip, pretty mercenary behaviour...I kinda have to respect it lol.p
He couldn't accept his core was going hamstring this team for years
Shanny sends a message loud and clear now let's see who wants out lol

Can you please explain to me what you see in this guy that makes him so infallible? I honestly do not get it whatsoever. Now before I continue. I do feel bad for him because of the amount of times he went to bat for Matthews, Marner and the other members of the core and the number of times that they let him down come playoff time. But other than that, I couldn't be happier that he's gone. Because look at the long laundry list of blunders that he's made here.

- Kadri for Barrie & Kerfoot
- Trading a 3rd for David Rittich
- Trading a 1st for Foligno
- Signing Mrazek than having to use a 1st to offload him
- Protecting Holl over McCann in the expansion draft
- Paying Marner $11m when that was no where near the market rate for a right winger at the time.
- Trading Marchment for Malgin.
- Trading for an injury prone has been in Murray

And these are just off the top of my head. There was many more. Not to mention the fact that in the 5 years that he was here, they only made it past the first round once. And even in that series they got out played in 5 out of the 6 games.

It's like I said. I just don't get the love and the borderline "I'm done with this team if they get rid if Dubas" mentality that some of you have on here.

Make it make sense.
I wouldn't have signed either of the goalies nor paid Marner $11M. The others seem reasonable to me. Yes, he overpaid for Foligno but that was a good fit, during the Covid Cup and Leafs had a once in a lifetime opportunity. You don't sit back and then wonder what happened.

Why is it so binary?

It's either you get someone who should have his own exhibit at the ROM, or you get someone who has no experience at all.

Surely there's a middle ground, right?

I'm holding out hope that the next genius GM can come in and hand out blank cheques to guys with zero leverage and win us (checks notes)...exactly ONE f***ING PLAYOFF ROUND.

I havent met a poster who thought he was infallible.

I think people liked the skill we had, how he prioritized top talent we've been devoid of for over a decade and setting some records along the way. He was also quick to address concerns, arguably too quick in some cases. Many also thought he was getting better with time as well

Best case scenario, all the Dubas fan club can f*** right off and leave this board for wherever Dubas lands. I don't don't about you guys, I'm a Leaf fan first, not a groupie for whoever is signing cheques.

Perfect thread to revert to my old avatar.

Like the man once said, "As long as it takes."

Given the intangibles of what was known and what we've seen, Shanahan looks (by happy accident) to have flicked the first domino of entitled culture onward...Genuinely surprised that Dubas used the presser to negotiate for more than he was offered and seemed to accept.

Almost like our former GM could empathize with his former players.

They're still fans of this team as well.

I am not a Dubas guy per se and thought change was needed, but perhaps it's an opportunity to end a lot of the divisiveness about it.

Not infallible. He made mistakes, but he's done a great job.

Aside from the moves you listed, there are about 200 other moves that were great and to win significantly more bets than you lose is a hard thing as a GM in the NHL.

There's a reason why smart teams like PIT and COL have asked for him to be GM in the past.
He didn't do a "great job". There's been zero results. No success. None.

To use a baseball analogy, the guy inherited a team on third base, no outs, primed for the game winning hit.

He struck out. Five times.

This guy, whoever he is, has stolen my argument in support of Dubas which I have shared for years.

I've disagreed with a handful of his moves/signings, but the vast majority made sense.

The truth is that it came down to the core not having what it took to succeed when the games became difficult. Kyle is a victim of a vision that he couldn't let go of. I am also very loyal in life, it is a blessing and a curse.

It will be Lou Vs Dubas constantly again. Which was toxic
