Can you please explain to me what you see in this guy that makes him so infallible? I honestly do not get it whatsoever. Now before I continue. I do feel bad for him because of the amount of times he went to bat for Matthews, Marner and the other members of the core and the number of times that they let him down come playoff time. But other than that, I couldn't be happier that he's gone. Because look at the long laundry list of blunders that he's made here.

- Kadri for Barrie & Kerfoot
- Trading a 3rd for David Rittich
- Trading a 1st for Foligno
- Signing Mrazek than having to use a 1st to offload him
- Protecting Holl over McCann in the expansion draft
- Paying Marner $11m when that was no where near the market rate for a right winger at the time.
- Trading Marchment for Malgin.
- Trading for an injury prone has been in Murray

And these are just off the top of my head. There was many more. Not to mention the fact that in the 5 years that he was here, they only made it past the first round once. And even in that series they got out played in 5 out of the 6 games.

It's like I said. I just don't get the love and the borderline "I'm done with this team if they get rid if Dubas" mentality that some of you have on here.

Make it make sense.

Goddamn the Wonder Boy flamed out pretty disastrously. Had the cushiest job in hockey at the age of 37, Shanny decides to turn his back on him when he came back and asked for more $$$$.

Used the family as a bargaining chip, pretty mercenary behaviour...I kinda have to respect it lol.

Not infallible. He made mistakes, but he's done a great job.

Aside from the moves you listed, there are about 200 other moves that were great and to win significantly more bets than you lose is a hard thing as a GM in the NHL.

There's a reason why smart teams like PIT and COL have asked for him to be GM in the past.

If it’s true that he was going to trade Knies + 1st round picks for Fleury + Hagel I’m not even mad he’s gone.

That’s a fireable offence.

Not great, decent.

Every GM has a list of bad to average moves that look bad or didn't work out in retrospect. To have a better idea of why someone is liked or disliked, and if you seriously want to know, then look at the body of work and objectively look on it if you can.

When you can't accept anything other than pure vitriol and negativity, we all know where it leads and there's no serious conversation to be had.

I was not Dubas' biggest fan. There were plenty of moves and decisions that I did not like over the two or three years in particular: the Murray trade, the Foligno trade, acquiring Gustafsson instead of an additional pick, keeping Keefe around.

Let me flip your question around though: You are asking if others recognize Dubas' follies, but do you recognize the good that he did? Managing the cap through the pandemic. Rebuilding the defence. Building out a strong supporting cast with little cap. Strong drafting.

Do you give him get credit for Jake Muzzin, Michael Bunting, Connor Timmins, David Kampf, TJ Brodie, Matthew Knies, and Topi Niemala? What about for the moves he didn't make? What about not moving William Nylander for Tyler Myers or some comparably shit defenseman like virtually every pundit in this city was demanding?

What about your opinions on the deals on you listed? Did you hate the Kadri trade at the time? Did you hate the Foligno one? I'd like see the receipts on that. Because I remember everyone wanting Kadri gone after yet another playoff suspension. I remember myself being really skeptical of the Foligno trade but a loud contingent of fans being for it, the very same contingent that is heavily critical of Dubas as GM. I remember posts this trade deadline insisting that Dubas had "finally figured it out" in acquiring ROR until, of course, we lost and he was back to being a soft, no-nothing glasses man.

- Kadri for Barrie & Kerfoot
Kadri nixed a better deal to Calgary and needed to go. This revisionist history littered with hamfisted hindsight about how it would have just dandy for him to stay is ridiculous. Doing that two years in a row in the playoffs? You gotta cut bait man.
- Trading a 3rd for David Rittich
Goalie depth is important, it was a fine risk that didn't pay off. They were afraid of a string of injuries that could have left them exposed (Michael Hutchinson)
- Trading a 1st for Foligno
Would have been good value if Foligno didn't literally die
- Signing Mrazek than having to use a 1st to offload him
Didn't happen
- Protecting Holl over McCann in the expansion draft
Probably his worst decision, yeah
- Paying Marner $11m when that was no where near the market rate for a right winger at the time.
Not great but some blame goes to Lamoriello who treated them like garbage during their rookie contract negotiations. They were out for blood and they got it.
- Trading Marchment for Malgin.
Marchment was a nobody, sometimes players find it other places. We gotta get over this, at the time it definitely looked like Malgin had more NHL upside. Are we mad at Lou for trading Verhaeghe when he was a complete random?
- Trading for an injury prone has been in Murray
He took two goalie risks in hopes that atleast 1 would pay off. Sammy did. Would you rather have gone for Campbell? Husso?? All things considered, he did fine on this front.

I like Kyle, he was a good GM. He made some poor choices but so does every GM. Overall he had a track record of finding value for cheap when surrounded with a hand he was dealt (A core that was built by someone else). Jarnkrok, Bunting, Brodie, Muzzin, Timmins, Kampf, Giordano, etc. He had a way of acquiring talent and keeping the cap at bay. We forget that those contracts were signed when it was virtual guarantee the cap was noticeably going up. Covid hit and that changed overnight.

You don't have to love him, he did a fine job.

This shows that players can really f over others when they handcuff the team over money (especially marner/nylander pulling his stunt skipping training camp) they played dubas like a fiddle who was young and new and they never showed up to play when he needed them. Lots of players play hard ball with money but they usually come through when they need to... Doubt these guys really care and it isnt their fault for chasing the money but they really took advantage of dubas. Which I guess is part of the business. Oh well they get there money and keep there job while nice guy dubas is gone.. kind of sad to be honest.

Cushiest job in hockey? In what world is being a GM in this market "cushy"?

Letting Dubas "negotiate" another contract is far more terrifying than the uncertainty who takes his place. Worst negotiator in NHL history, I don't believe that's an embellishment

Dubas got handed what should have been a dynasty, created a giant mess around the core structure. Spends every year making ticky tack moves to try and rectify his giant mistake and fans marvel at his creativity as he smears around the mess he made in his pants at the outset.

Tavares, Brodie and Murray were his biggest moves.

ouch.

People are forgetting what years under Nonis, Burke, Ferguson were like.

Deals happened with zero logic and you'd just hope things work out.

People have to understand the bar isn’t to be better than what the Leafs used to have during the Dark Ages but where they should be going.

If you're talking GM positions:
making millions per year
1st class organization where you have an unlimited budget to hire whoever you want
in a hockey mecca
original 6 franchise
internationally renowned brand

I guess being GM of the Coyotes probably gives being the Leafs GM a pretty close run
