He practised yesterday and now his career is in jeopardy?
Practice and play are different worlds. He’s missed 15 games already this year following treatments jn Germany and 2 surgeries. Missed a month, came back played a couple games and has been out since. I’m concerned forsure.

NYI games are the absolute worst. Dogshit clutch and grab team that completely kills entertainment value of this sport
Clutch and grab? When was the last time we’ve seen one of those? If we’re lucky two guys might not see each other and collide. Other than that we won’t see any contact.

I trust that the organization will do what's best for Matthews' health. No need to worry when he's got the smartest and best medical people making the decisions.

As for the Islanders. They are pretty close to terrible. No forward strikes any fear, and their goaltending is heinously overrated. I expect their defensive style to stifle most of the interesting/fun stuff, so it'll be our top end scorers that make the difference. Tavares/Marner/Nylander will get some points in the win.

 The drama here can be a little over the top at times.

True, but those words may end up being prophetic.

Because whatever is going on with Matthews if the genius medical experts in the German Alps - an area famous for its medical experts - couldn't cure him from his clearly life-threatening ailment(s) then probably no one can.

The only question now I guess is if AM has done enough to warrant his number hanging from the Scotiabank rafters when he inevitably retires this summer to prevent long-term health issues, like dying?

Did you see last game? Every single play there was constant obstruction and interference.

I mean, right, he's injured, so injured players miss games. That said, I'm not saying there isn't reason to be concerned. To be honest, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if at some point he ends up in surgery for whatever the injury is.

It was nice of the NCAA to play the re-scheduled game at 4 today so it wouldn’t conflict with the Leaf Game.

At the moment it looks like surgery isn't even a consideration:

Didn't even watch last game. Really feels like the NHL is pushing me away with the difficulty of finding a decent quality stream despite paying for content, I am blacked out a lot of times.

They make games regional, and I can deal with fighting with crappy streams until I find a good one when I am in my man cave, but on New Years eve afternoon when I have guests over and just wanted something easy to put on the tv, not fighting with it. I've also never watched so few non Leaf games.

/end rant.

GLG let's hope for a sweep of this home and home

Hoping for another low eventful game that yields the same result. It might be boring hockey, but the results show it works.

Last season record January 2nd 2024: 17-10-7, 41 points.
This season record January 2nd 2025: 22-13-2, 48 points

Most of the credit should go to Tanev, Stolarz and Berube. They are what is different this year and they have been difference makers.

just get this one over with quick

I hate watching NYI games, just nothing happening. Our guys rarely get up to play them, and they are content playing a 3-2 game with less than 60 shots combined

I think Matthews is only a couple more games away. Maybe back on the last half of the back to back or first game next week.

unfortunately it's how the season will play out. I don't think he should play on team USA.

It's a fun tournament but he's not missing the Olympics or something.

near the end of the season If they're in good shape... they probably shut him down for a while.

it's probably a back issue but I wondered if it's a rib injury or something else beyond a regular injury. Either way hopefully by next season it's in the past because it's something he's going to have to play through.

Anyway Go Leafs Go tonight. Hopefully they put this one to bed quick and score a bunch. One can hope.

I thank you for this post.

I needed a laugh today.

I think Matthews needs another 11 goals to cement his status.

3 Rocket Locomotive Trophies pulling along a cast of misfits and never were's to the playoffs, along with those 11 goals, should do it.

Time to get Tavares away from Marner?:

Tavares high danger scoring chances per 60 for and against 5v5:

W/Marner: hdcf 8.4, Hdca 10.4
W/Paccioretty: hdcf 16.18, Hdca 9.94
W/Nylander: hdcf 15.16, Hdca 9.24
