The secrecy on the injury at this point is absurd. Just tell everyone it’s your back and let’s move on with what the options are to fix it.

At this point, I think you just have to ignore the daily reports and come to the acceptance that he's out for a long while and you won't see him at anywhere near 100% even when comes back.

Last time he was day to day, he sat out games between November 3 and 30. If he's resting for the same amount of time that puts his return date at 3rd week of January.

But yeah they should just say what it is and what the real timelines are for options. There's no need to make this a daily story.

Sounds like this season is a write-off with regards to a healthy Matthews.

So they'll just put a band aide on it until trade deadline day.

Perhaps at that time they put him on LTIR and go shopping.

Option is they play shorthanded until the off-season, with an in-and-out of the line-up $13mm sometimes available.

Courage.

I think they will be fine for the next 4 games. Things should get more challenging after that, especially into February. They will really need their goaltending to hold up.
Bos might be tough. They finally got a regulation win against them but they will still come out ready for the Leafs

Yeah we don’t have any idea what’s wrong with him but if September-January isn’t enough to get right by playing and then sitting out I’m not sure what you do the rest of the way this season. Maybe the question you have to answer is how do you get him back to 100% for next year?

If he isn't confident in beling healthy this year, it is time to look longer term.

He wouldn't be the first superstar to have a career shortened due to chronic injury, so anyone saying it can't happen is navel gazing.

We don't plan on using it, but we all buy insurance.

I’ve heard them mention that it’s “non structural” so I guess they mean it’s not a spinal column kind of problem. More like a soft tissue problem. But who knows.

New Year, same shit….

Really don’t enjoy games with the Islanders.

Interesting to see Hakanpaa on the ice but I have no expectations of him ever playing in a significant capacity for us. Happy to be surprised though.
Honestly, when he was healthy he was a #6/7 defenceman.
Oh, he hits? Now he won't be able to catch anyone to hit on one knee!!!
Hated this signing. Pointless effort.

Put him on LTIR, pick up a great centre at the trade deadline and if possible a true number 4 d-man to push OEL down (go all in on trading picks/prospects). Activate him for the playoffs.
First year in ages we may actually have good goaltending for the playoffs, at least mediocre defence, stellar forwards with another top centre, push Domi to wing, etc.
But Treliving is frozen at the switch, we will be lucky to get him to trade for a #3 centre. I hope I am wrong, but I think he will pick up Gourde and think it is a home run.

I’ve said for a while now but it’s beyond time to be extremely concerned about Matthews. Just Kucherov him now. LTIR see him a week before playoffs. His career could very well be in jeopardy

He has little to nothing to trade.

He wouldn’t come back for the playoffs if he had to miss the regular season and 4N
